According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, despite a successful 2022 for new Apple products, the year could end with a fizzle. Apple may announce the new Macs and iPads without a big fall event or much fanfare beyond press releases.
Sure, the 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro M2 Pro and Max updates, Mac mini M2 and M2 Pro updates and iPad Pro M2 updates that Apple could introduce this fall are all intriguing in their own right. However, the year 2022 will not be the triumphant conclusion that we had hoped for due to the absence of both an event and a Mac Pro.
But there’s always 2022, and according to Gurman, Apple might have a banner year in 2023. You’ve heard it before but 2023 has a chance to join the ranks of other iconic years like 1984, 1998 and 2007. List of all the rumored 2023 Apple products.
Mixed Reality Headset
In 2019, we may see the release of the first commercially available augmented reality/virtual reality (AR/VR, also known as “mixed reality”) headset. Recent speculation suggests they’ll call it Apple Reality and there have been many differing predictions about its design and functionality. (Have a lot of years passed?) Recent rumors suggest it will have an M2 processor, 8K displays and more than a dozen cameras.
No matter what it’s called or how it functions, 2023 will go down in Apple history as the year of the revolutionary product. This is more than just an add-on piece of hardware; it’s an entirely new ecosystem. While this isn’t the first headset on the market, and some competitors are staking their futures on it, Apple is known for improving upon earlier innovations. Most likely, the announcement will be made at WWDC in June of 2023.
This year was supposed to mark the conclusion of a two-year chip rollout for Apple and the release of a new Mac Pro based on Apple’s silicon. But after a major hint at March’s Mac Studio reveal, it appears Apple will delay the release until 2023. Perhaps Apple is giving the Mac Pro line extra attention because it is having “supply chain problems” or because it has decided to take the time to reevaluate the line and do it right. Whatever the case may be, Apple’s release of the Apple Watch Ultra serves as a timely reminder that premium, extreme products are necessary to showcase the company’s capabilities.
Even though we know less about Apple’s new workstation, the Mac Pro, than any other product coming out in 2023, the spotlight will be on the company that year. What kind of UltraFused M3 Ultra can we expect? Will PCIe cards work with it? Do you want a sphere or a tower? There is no doubt that the new Mac Pro, in whatever form it takes, will represent the most cutting-edge Mac technology available.
Most likely, the announcement will be made at WWDC in June of 2023.
15-inch MacBook Air
We may see a larger MacBook Air by the end of 2022, according to rumors that began circulating last year. Since Mark Gurman reported that Apple delayed the release to 2023, that prospect has diminished. What this means for the rest of Apple’s laptop lineup will be just as intriguing to observe as the laptop’s development unfolds. What does this mean for the 13-inch MacBook Pro? Will it be phased out?
Most people agree that the spring of 2023 is a good estimate for the big reveal.
HomePod With Display
Apple’s major product lines will all be updated and a new product will be released in 2023, so how about a product rebirth? However, reports of Apple reintroducing the HomePod have been scant. It’s likely to be a full speaker like the original HomePod, and it might feature a radical redesign with a screen.
An Apple HomePod device similar to the Amazon Echo Show has also been speculated upon. This would be a speaker/iPad hybrid that would serve as a remote for smartphones, a FaceTime hub, a digital access kiosk, and more. Even though Gurman has said this gadget won’t be unveiled until 2024, it seems like it would be perfect for the 2023 holiday season.
Fingers crossed for a late 2023 One More Thing is our best guess for the reveal date.
14-inch iPad Pro
Since the 12.9-inch iPad Pro debuted in 2015, Apple has not introduced a new iPad Pro size. In 2023, when Apple, in keeping with its recent “bigger is better” product philosophy is expected to release a 14-inch iPad Pro, according to a report by Mark Gurman. According to rumors, this new size will be a better fit for users who are “accustomed to a 16-inch MacBook Pro” so we’re crossing our fingers for some exciting new features on the larger display.
Expect the big reveal sometime in the spring of 2023. C’mon, let’s face facts. Headset? Mac Professional? Pffft! In this sense, the year 2023 will be defining. This is the show’s final season, and it was supposed to premiere in 2022 but production issues and scheduling conflicts pushed the premiere to 2023. Apple’s year will be much more even after the release of this product. Most people agree that the spring of 2023 is a good estimate for the big reveal.
