Two persons died and five others were injured on Saturday, 25 feb 2023, in a crash following a high speed chase with Border Patrol authorities in Southern Texas.
The fatal crash occurred around 3 a.m. near Rio Bravo, just across the Rio Grande from Mexico, after Border Patrol officers sought to execute a traffic stop on the vehicle carrying seven individuals.
Rio Bravo Fire Chief Juan Gonzalez told the Loredo Morning Times that the pursuit halted when the car hit with a fence then drove into a light pole, ripping the vehicle in half.
“The car then ejected six people, which left four critically injured, one just being injured and two casualties,” Gonzalez said.
Police have not published the identities of anyone in the vehicle.
As per sources, Border Patrol said in a statement that the incident is under investigation by the Webb County Sheriff’s Office and evaluated by U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Office of Professional Responsibility and Immigration and Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
