The crash at Hamilton Boulevard and Folk Road in Upper Macungie Township killed Christopher Schaffer, 25, and Patrick Phyrillas, 22. Both men were from Reading.

The intersection is still being built, so there is no traffic light.

Coroner Daniel Buglio said that both men were in the car and that they were both dead at the scene of the crash. Buglio said in a news release on Monday that both men died from accidental head injuries caused by the crash.

Police didn’t say who the drivers were but said that the driver of the car was in critical condition in the hospital and that the truck driver was taken to the hospital to be checked out.

After the accident, the damaged sedan was in a ditch on the eastbound side of Hamilton Boulevard, and the tractor-trailer with a badly damaged front end was stopped in the middle of the road.

With help from the Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office, the crash is being looked into by the coroner’s office, the Upper Macungie Township Police Department, and the Lehigh County Crash Reconstruction Task Force.
