Sarina Esmailzadeh, who was 16 years old, is said to have been beaten to death at a protest. This comes after the death of Nika Shakarami, who was 17 years old.
There are rumors that Iran’s security forces killed another teenage girl. This comes as protests over the death of Mahsa Amini look like they will go on for the third week. Amnesty International says that 16-year-old YouTube star Sarina Esmailzadeh was killed on September 23 when security forces beat her with batons at a protest in Gohardasht, Alborz province.
In a statement, Amnesty International also said, based on a primary source, that Esmailzadeh’s family had been subjected to “intense harassment” to get them to shut up. Iranian officials denied these claims.

As news of Esmailzadeh’s death spread on social media today, Iran’s Isna news agency reported that the chief justice of Alborz province said a preliminary investigation showed the teen committed suicide by jumping off the roof of a five-story building and that Esmailzadeh had a history of mental health problems.

Esmailzadeh’s YouTube videos, which have gone viral on social media sites, show her listening to music, dancing, and talking about how she wants to travel. In a widely shared video, Esmailzadeh and her family can be seen singing along to Hozier’s “Take Me to Church” as they drive.
In others, she talks about women’s rights, like how she doesn’t like having to wear the hijab, and how angry she is about the economy in Iran.

Schoolgirls from all over Iran said in private message groups that they were going to protest this weekend to show support for Esmailzadeh and Nika Shakarami, the 17-year-old schoolgirl who went missing on September 20 and was allegedly tortured and killed by Iran’s security forces.
Even though Shakarami’s family said she was beaten and raped and that her body was taken from them and buried without their permission, Iranian officials said she had also jumped off the roof of a building.
This week, though, Shakarami’s mother accused the Iranian government of killing her daughter and said they tried to force her to say that Shakarami had killed herself.
The Irna news agency reported on Friday that an Iranian coroner’s report on the death of Mahsa Amini, the 22-year-old woman who died after being detained by Iran’s morality police and whose death sparked widespread protests, found that she did not die from blows to the head and limbs but from multiple organ failure caused by cerebral hypoxia after she fell while in custody, due to “underlying diseases.”
