A Tennessee mother of two is now in stable condition, but she has “stitches and bites marks all over her body” from when she tried to stop her two pit bulls from killing her two toddlers on Wednesday.
Kirstie Jane Bennard, age 30, was badly hurt by the dogs when she tried to get them off of her 5-month-old son Hollace Dean and 2-year-old daughter Lilly Jane outside of their home in Shelby County, Tennessee. A tweet from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office says that both children were pronounced dead at the scene.
SCSO detectives are on scene at the 700 block of Sylvan Road near Shelby Forest State Park, where at about 3:30 pm two family dogs attacked a 2-year-old girl, a 5-month-old boy, and their mother in the home. The children were pronounced deceased on the scene. 1/2 pic.twitter.com/2IzlBedyjs

Bennard’s condition is said to be stable, but the mother has “an uncountable number of stitches and bites marks all over her body, including her face,” husband Colby Bennard’s uncle Jeff Gibson wrote on Facebook.
Gibson says that the tragic event lasted about 10 minutes, but he doesn’t know much about how the attack happened or why the pets became aggressive. Gibson also said that Bennard’s “arms and legs are completely bandaged”
The family member also wrote, “As of right now, it looks like the only permanent damage is a broken heart.”
Kelsey Canfield, Bennard’s best friend, told Fox News Digital that Cheech and Mia had been part of the family for more than eight years without doing anything bad.
Canfield said, “That attack went on longer than any of us could have thought.”
