Michael Bivins is a successful American producer, musician, and businessman. He entered the world on August 10, 1968, in Boston. After making his name in the late ’80s with the R&B groups New Edition and Bell Biv DeVoe, Bivins became a household name on his own.
Along with Ricky Bell, Bobby Brown, Ronnie DeVoe, Ralph Tresvant, and Johnny Gill, Bivins was a founding member of the group New Edition. In the 1980s, the band found fame with songs including “Candy Girl,” “Cool It Now,” and “Mr. Telephone Man.” Bivins managed the band and helped steer their careers in the right direction.
Bell Biv DeVoe was founded in 1989 by Bivins and former New Edition bandmates Ricky Bell and Ronnie DeVoe. The group’s debut album, “Poison,” was a huge success, topping the Billboard 200 chart and selling over 4 million copies in the United States alone. “Do Me!” and “B.B.D. (I Thought It Was Me)?” were two of the album’s big singles.
Boyz II Men, Another Bad Creation, and 702 are among the other artists that have benefited from Bivins’ production and songwriting abilities. His brainchild was Biv 10 Records, which he founded in 1992, and signed musicians such as 3LW and the group MC Brains.
