Since its 1979 inception by George Miller and Byron Kennedy, the Mad Max franchise has produced five installments, the most recent of which being Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. Mel Gibson was the leading man in the first three features, while Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron were in the fourth.
In October 2020, Warner Bros. Pictures initially announced Furiosa. According to accounts, this was the largest production in Australia’s history, and filming took place all over the country in 2022.

The already-exciting cast of Furiosa has just gotten even more stellar with the addition of several critically regarded performers. The role of a youthful Imperator Furiosa will be played by the extraordinarily gifted Anya Taylor-Joy.
Following her breakout performance in The VVitch, Taylor-Joy went on to star in a string of critically acclaimed films and television shows, including Split, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, The Queen’s Gambit, Last Night in Soho, The Menu, and The Northman.

In addition to these new characters joining the Mad Max canon, Angus Sampson and Nathan Jones, who played Rictus Erectus and the Organic Mechanic, respectively, in Fury Road, will also be appearing in Furiosa. Another actor who has just joined the cast is 12-year-old Quaden Bayles.

As the world fell, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus. Sweeping through the Wasteland, they come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe. While the two Tyrants war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home.
The prequel will reportedly focus on Imperator Furiosa’s backstory and the trials she endured before to her encounter with Max Rockatansky. Furiosa will follow her as she overcomes adversity to become a morally upright feminist action hero and a strong-willed, independent leader. People are also hoping that the film would explain how she got a prosthetic limb after losing her own.
Mad Max Furiosa Release Date
Miller and Warner Bros., the film’s studio, explored the possibility of prequels and sequels after Fury Road was a commercial and critical success. The 2020-announced Furiosa was meant to be released on June 23, 2023, although it never happened.
The debut was postponed from its original fall 2021 date to May 24, 2024 (Memorial Day weekend), according to an announcement made by Warner Bros. At the box office, it will face off against Chris Pratt’s The Garfield Movie and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.
But there have been rumors that Furiosa would make its world premiere at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival. Given the success of Fury Road’s premiere there, this would be a very fitting premiere. Cannes will begin on May 14, 2024.
