Kanye West’s Accounts Restricted on Twitter, Instagram Following Backlash Over Antisemitic Posts

Kanye “Ye” West’s Twitter account was locked by the social media site because he broke its rules, a company representative told Variety. In its statement, Twitter didn’t say which of  Kanye West’s posts were the reason why his account was limited.

West took to Twitter after he was blocked on Instagram for the same reason. This is why the restriction is now in place. The musician sent out two tweets that many people have called antisemitic.

Since then, Twitter has taken down the first post because it “broke the Twitter rules.” In the post, West said he couldn’t be antisemitic and that the Jewish people had “played with” him.

“I’m a little tired tonight, but when I wake up I’m going to death con 3 on JEWISH PEOPLE,” West wrote in a post that has since been taken down. “It’s funny, but I can’t really be anti-Semitic because black people are also Jews. You guys have teased me and tried to blackball anyone who doesn’t agree with your plans.

A second tweet that was sent out soon after the first one is still visible on Twitter: “Who, in your opinion, started the cancel culture?”

West’s Instagram account was limited the day before because the platform deleted some of his posts for breaking its rules.

A spokesperson for Meta confirmed the decision to Variety and said that it is common for accounts that often break the rules of a social media platform to have their ability to post, comment and message temporarily taken away. The company did not say which posts, in particular, were the reason for the ban.

West, whose Twitter handle is @kanyewest, had posted a screenshot of a message that he said was sent to rapper Diddy. The message had been called antisemitic by Jewish advocacy groups like the American Jewish Committee.

West’s representatives were not available right away to say anything.

In the hours after he was banned from Instagram West went on Twitter for the first time in a while. He seemed to blame Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg for his ban from Instagram.

Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla has been in court over a possible purchase of Twitter. In response, he welcomed West back to the social media site. The rapper also posted what looks like a teaser for a political campaign in 2024. He has talked about running for office in the past.

This is not the first time West has been told he can’t do something on Instagram. The rapper was banned from the platform for 24 hours in March. During that time, content from West’s account was also deleted because it broke rules about hate speech, bullying, and harassment.

West also got into trouble earlier this week when he wore a shirt that said “White Lives Matter” to his Paris fashion show for Yeezy Season 9. The rapper also talked about the decision on the Fox News show “Tucker Carlson Tonight” on Thursday night.
