The fiancee of a New Jersey lawyer appeared in court as he was accused of a spate of rapes in Massachusetts.

Attorney Matthew Nilo, 35, arrived in court in Hudson County for an extradition hearing, accompanied by his new fiancee Laura Griggin.

According to now-deleted social media posts, according to The New York Post, Mr. Nilo proposed to Ms. Griffin just weeks before he was detained for a series of alleged attαcks.

Mr. Nilo is accused of assaulting four women in the Terminal Street section of Charlestown in 2007 and 2008.

Investigators utilized genetic genealogy to link him to the attαcks, and he was apprehended at his residence in Weehawken, New Jersey.

“Mr. Nilo is looking forward to being taken back up to Massachusetts, where he will enter a not guilty plea and fight these charges and prove his innocence,” his attorney Jeff Garrigan said.

Mr. Nilo has been charged with three counts of aggravated rape, two counts of kidnapping, one crime of s*xual assault, and one of indecent assault and abuse.

“We believe we have removed a dangerous threat from our community,” FBI Special Agent Joseph Bonavolonta said as he revealed the arrest to reporters.

According to ABC New York, Mr. Nilo was identified after his family willingly supplied DNA samples to a genealogical database. Authorities did not say which genealogical website assisted them in locating Mr. Nilo.

Mr. Nilo graduated from the University of San Francisco and worked as a cyber insurance agency attorney.
