The Boys season 4 has been in production since August, and we already know that Karl Urban and the rest of the cast will be joined by newcomers Valorie Curry and Susan Heyward. Also, Jeffrey Dean Morgan from The Walking Dead has signed on for a role that hasn’t been revealed yet.
Given that the end of season 3 was a big fight between Billy Butcher (Urban), Homelander (Antony Starr), and Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles), there’s a lot to look forward to in the next chapter. Want to know more about what’s coming? Below, we go over everything we know about The Boys season 4, from hints about the plot to which actors will be back to a possible release date. We also talk about what happened in season 3, so watch out for spoilers and what we know about the upcoming spin-off. So scroll or we’ll call you a swear word or something…
When will The Boys Season 4 come out?
The Boy’s season 4 has not yet been given a release date. The show wasn’t picked up again until June 2022, and the last episode of the third season aired on July 8, 2022. There’s a good chance we’ll have to wait a while for new episodes.

Even though we don’t have any solid information, we’ve spent a lot of time looking at past seasons to figure out when the show will be back. Between the first and second seasons of the show, there was a gap of one year and one month. Between the second and third seasons, there was a long gap of one year and eight months, which was made longer by the Coronavirus pandemic. If season 4 is like the others, it could come anytime between July 2023 and March 2024.
Given that the show is back to filming, it seems likely that new episodes of The Boys will come out in the middle or end of 2023. It usually takes between 10 and 12 months from when filming starts until the show airs. This is, of course, just a guess for now. We’ll let you know as soon as something official is told.
One thing that seems likely is that The Boy’s spin-off show will come out before season 4. This is called Gen V, and the cast was revealed in a special video on the official social media account for The Boys (opens in new tab). Even though there isn’t a date yet, it’s likely to be on Prime Video in 2023. In a Vought-run university, college-aged Supes are put through tests like those in The Hunger Games.
Kripke has also hinted that there might be some connections between this and the main series of The Boys. He told Deadline, “There’s a crossover, and we’re doing our best to create a universe where some of the problems and storylines from Season 3 carry over to the first season.” Like, a presidential campaign is going on in the background of that season, and some things are going on at that school that is both reactions to Season 3 of The Boys. There’s Soldier Boy, etc., and some new storylines in that spin-off season that we have to pick up and use in Season 4 of the show.”
What Is The Storyline Of The Boys, season 4?
The plot of The Boys season 4 hasn’t been set in stone yet, but the end of season 3 gives us a pretty good idea of what will happen next. The Boys are back together, and their plan to take down the Supes is more critical than ever. But it looks like Victoria Neuman has become their main enemy. After making a deal with Homelander, her opponent was drowned by The Deep in the season finale, which gave her the Vice Presidential nomination. This makes her a candidate to be the most potent Supe ever, at least in terms of politics.
But thanks to Starlight, they will have a little help this time. After trying to make changes from the inside, she is now a full-fledged member of team Butcher. After Temp V, he may need all the help he can get. Because of how the drug affects his body, he’s been told he’s living on borrowed time, so Billy will be in grave danger in the new season.
Kripke told Variety (opens in new tab) that they will go after Neuman while Butcher only has a few months to live. The person who made the video said, “They’re up against the DeSantis ticket.” “That’s part of the fun of getting into Season 4, which we’re still trying to figure out, but his clock is crazy. He has a lot to do that he hasn’t done yet.
The showrunner said this about Butcher’s path: “What we find interesting about the question we’re asking about Butcher is, Is he self-aware enough to realize that he’s making his bad luck? Does he know himself well enough to see if he can change? The exciting things we’re talking about for Season 4 are listed above.
There’s also Homelander. He is still as crazy as ever, and it seems like nothing can stop him. Even though the Super shot a bystander with a laser and shared his controversial and toxic views in a national TV address, the Storm Chasers are still on his side. He is now joined by his son Ryan, whose powers he made known to the world.
Kripke gave IGN a hint about where this story could go next when he talked about it. “If he’s allowed to raise Ryan, he’ll raise him to be a second Homelander, which could lead to the world’s end. Kripke said, “If he stays in that environment, he will become another Homelander.” “So I think it’s a hint that Butcher and Homelander will fight over Ryan, which will be one of the biggest problems in season four.”
We don’t know if Season 4 will have a new “big bad.” Soldier Boy has been stopped, but he is not dead. So, he might be retaken off the ice when the next season comes around. But we think Kripke will have a new trick up his sleeve for season 4 when we might finally meet someone who can beat Homelander for good.

Who Are The Characters Of The Boys Season 4?
In the last few seasons, the cast of The Boys has grown a lot, and it looks like almost everyone will be back. In the next few months, before work on season 4 starts, we should hear about who will be in it. But in the meantime, we have looked at who survived the season 3 finale.
The Boys are going to come back. So, Jack Quaid will play Hughie, Laz Alonso will play Mother’s Milk, Tomer Capone will play Frenchie, Karen Fukuhara will play Kimiko, Erin Moriarty will play Starlight, and Karl Urban will play Billy Butcher. The Seven are getting fewer and fewer, but Homelander makes it out alive. That means Antony Starr will be back, along with Chase Crawford’s The Deep, Jessie T. Usher’s A-Train, and Colby Minifie as Vought suck-up CEO Ashley. At the end of season 3, Homelander also put his son Ryan in the spotlight, which is reflected in the cast list: Cameron Crovetti has been promoted to series regular.
Victoria Neuman is going to be the next Vice President of the US, so Claudia Doumit should be back. Paul Reiser could come back as The Legend, and Katy Breieras could come back as The Deep’s now-divorced wife, Cassandra. Jeffrey Dean Morgan is the only new cast member for season 4 of The Boys. He will be on the show in a role that hasn’t been decided. When the news was made public, the actor wrote on Twitter, “Can’t tell you how excited I am! Thanks to @therealKripke, @AMCPlus, and @TheBoysTV for making both schedules work. No easy task. SO DAMN STOKED!!”
In the new season, there are also two new Supes. Firecracker and Sister Sage will be played by Valorie Curry (Detroit: Become Human) and Susan Heyward (Powers). In October 2022, we got our first look at them, which you can see below… Eric Kripke, the show’s creator, said this about the new characters: “These new Supes are some of the best and craziest I’ve ever written for The Boys. You will like them. And by “love,” I mean be horrified and a little bit sick. “YOU GUYS, WELCOME TO THE FAMILY.”
It’s unclear if Giancarlo Esposito will come back as Stan Edgar, the disgraced head of Vought. Neuman and Homelander worked together to get rid of him, and he hasn’t been seen much since. He could have a small role or a bigger one in season 4. Anything is possible for him. After Homelander brutally killed Nathan Mitchell’s Black Noir in the season 3 finale, we thought we had seen the last of him.
Kripke said that the version of Noir was dead when they talked about the character’s death, but he did say that Vought could recast him. He told Deadline (opens in new tab): “I’ll tell you this without giving anything away: the person who is Black Noir is dead. His organs are all over the place, but when you have a completely silent hero who wears a mask, they aren’t too hard to replace.
He told Entertainment Weekly more about this and confirmed that Mitchell would come back as a different version of the character. Kripke said, “[He will play] a different character who wears the Black Noir suit. Black Noir won’t be a hero for the last time, that’s for sure. The person who wore the Noir suit in season 3 is no longer there. But Nathan will play a really funny and exciting character next season who wears the suit.
After the end of season 3, it’s unclear what will happen to the other characters. After Dominique McElligott’s character, Maeve, ran away with her girlfriend Elena, we said goodbye to her as Maeve. Mallory put Soldier Boy, played by Jensen Ackles, back on the ice to stop him from being a threat.
Kripke said that it’s likely that both of them will come back at some point. He told Deadline, “We won’t get to the end of the series without seeing Maeve again, that’s for sure. I’m hoping we see Soldier Boy again.” In another interview with Entertainment Weekly, he said they were “100%” leaving the door open for Soldier Boy to come back. Kripke said, “An old TV saying goes, ‘Never kill anyone unless you have to.’ Open a window instead of closing a door. We’ll have to wait and see, but I can’t see the series ending without Soldier Boy making another appearance.
