The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 2: For Season 2 of The Summer I Turned Pretty, we can’t wait to pack our swimsuits and return to the charming East Coast town of Cousins Beach. The young adult romance series on Prime Video is based on the Jenny Han novels of the same name.
It’s no surprise that we fell in love with the Amazon series over the summer given that Han also penned the original novels for our favorite Netflix movie trilogy, To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before. Han was also the series creator. Despite having a distinctly Gen Z cast, the film’s charming coastal setting, stellar soundtrack (hello, T-Swift), and first-love thrills keep audiences of all ages enthralled.
They’ve always seen me as a young child, but not this summer. Season 1 chronicled the events of the first novel in the trilogy about coming-of-age characters Belly Conklin (Lola Tung), 16, as she walked Abercrombie and Fitch models Conrad (Christopher Briney) and Jeremiah during her summer vacation (Gavin Casalegno).
In contrast to the book’s plot, the mother of the boys, Susannah (Rachel Blanchard), revealed she has breast cancer and consented to participate in a cancer trial in the hopes of finding a cure. While Amazon Studios used the first book as inspiration for the series, they added Jeremiah’s bisexuality and allowed Belly to attend the debutante ball.
With the hope that Amazon will order The Summer I Turned Pretty for a third season to complete the trilogy with We’ll Always Have Summer, we can assume that Season 2 will follow the second book in the series, It’s Not Summer Without You. Whether you’re on Team Conrad or Jeremiah, the Belly, Conrad, and Jeremiah love triangle is arguably the most incredible ongoing love story of our time (at least until summer 2022). (or even Team Cam).

Has The Summer I Turned Pretty Been Renewed For Season 2?
Yes! There won’t be more episodes of the teen drama The Summer I Turned Pretty, so fans need not worry. Deadline reported that Prime Video approved a second season of The Summer I Turned Pretty weeks before season 1 premiered. Jenny Han will return to the show as the showrunner and writer, much like she did in season 1.
Given that there are three The Summer I Turned Pretty books and that season 1 only deals with the first, a third season is probably on the horizon. Season 2’s filming started in July 2022 and will likely continue for the ensuing few months.
When is The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 2 Release Date?
Season 2 of The Summer I Turned Pretty is not scheduled to premiere on Prime Video. But given that filming has already begun, we anticipate the release date won’t be far off. A June or July 2023 release date is conceivable, similar to season 1. We believe Prime Video will attempt to broadcast season 2 in the summer.
There is a significant probability that season 2 will include the same number of episodes as season 1, or seven new episodes total, even though Prime Video has not yet disclosed how many episodes they have ordered.
The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 2 Plot
Our best assumption is that season 2 of The Summer I Turned Pretty will be an adaptation of the second novel, It’s Not Summer Without You, given season 1 was a reasonably faithful representation of the entire first book. If this is the case, we regret to inform you that Susannah tragically passes away in the second book, which makes Conrad grow distant from Belly and insist that she be with Jeremiah rather than him.

But Susannah still has some hope. In the books, Susannah adamantly declines to receive any care. Contrarily, after season 1, Conrad and Jeremiah convince Susannah to seek treatment. Given this, Sussanah may make it through her therapy in season 2. Simply put, we doubt Jenny would alter such a significant portion of the work.
The book It’s Not Summer Without You summarizes: “Belly used to count down the days until summer so she could spend it at Cousins Beach once more with Conrad and Jeremiah. But not this year. Not until Susannah was ill once again, and Conrad lost interest. The belly is desiring the end of summer since everything right and good has crumbled.”
It continues: “But when Jeremiah phones to report that Conrad has vanished, Belly knows what she needs to do to set things right once more. And because they are all together again at the beach home, things can only go back to how they were. If this is the last summer, it should end at Cousins Beach, where it all began.”
In other words, Belly and Jeremiah’s potential romance is far from done, and season 2 will likely be filled with heartache and loss if it stays faithful to the novel. In an interview with Collider, Lola Tung discussed her expectations for Belly in season 2. “She did a lot growing up over this first season and she was figuring out so much, so I’m excited just to explore all of that and where we left off,” Tung said. “That feeling of a little bit more maturity and having grown up a little bit and had experiences that change you, hopefully for the better.”

Christopher Briney told Seventeen about Conrad’s impending season 2 narrative, “If I had scripts, I would tell you so it’s good they haven’t given me any yet.” He said: “The world-shattering a little bit because it’s almost a storybook ending, is what I’m most looking forward to. I enjoy the book. Therefore, I’m hoping that some of it will be followed.”
The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 2 Cast
The Conklin family, which consists of Belly (Tung), her mother Laurel (Jackie Chung), and brother Steven (Sean Kaufman), as well as Conrad (Briney) and Jeremiah, will all return in Season 2. (Casalegno). Taylor (Rain Spencer) and Cam (David Iacono), Belly’s friends, will also be coming back. Amazon revealed two new cast members on August 31: Kyra Sedgwick and Elsie Fisher will play recurring parts in Season 2.
