There were already rumors that Universal was interested in making a sequel to M3gan, which was directed by Gerard Johnstone and written by Akela Cooper. It looks like those rumors are going to turn into something a lot sooner than you might have thought.
Variety says that M3gan 2.0 is a sequel to Universal’s surprise viral hit about the best friend bot that can sing, dance, and kill. Cooper will write the script again, and Allison Williams and Violet McGraw will play their roles again.

Since its release on January 6, the first M3gan has made an amazing $100 million worldwide on a small $12 million budget. This is exactly the kind of box office hit that Universal and its producing partner Blumhouse would be crazy not to follow up on.

Interestingly, Universal hasn’t said if Johnstone will return to direct the sequel or if Amie Donald or Jenna Davis, who played M3gan and gave her a voice, will be a part of it. But the studio has said that M3gan 2.0 will come out in theatres on January 17, 2025.
