How was Swiatek’s Early life?

Iga Witek was born to Dorota and Tomasz Witek on May 31, 2001, in Warsaw. Her father was an Olympic rower in the men’s quadruple sculls competition in 1988 in Seoul. Her mom is an orthodontic specialist. Her dentist’s older sister Agata is only three years her senior.

Witek’s dad encouraged his girls to pursue athletic careers, and he thought they’d have more success if they focused on individual rather than team sports. Agata began her athletic career as a swimmer but transitioned to tennis when she encountered difficulties in the pool.

Iga joined tennis with the twin goals of besting her sibling and becoming more like her. In 2013, when Agata was around 15 years old, she temporarily participated in the ITF Junior Circuit before having to withdraw due to injuries. Iga began her soccer career at Mera Warsaw when she was 14 years old, before making the switch to Legia Warsaw.

Swiatek’s Fantastic Career

Iga Swiatek began her tennis career in 2015 when she entered the ITF Junior Circuit as a junior player. She began by dominating the grade 4 competition and quickly advanced to grade 3 and then grade 2. At the 2016 French Open, she competed in her first junior grand slam and advanced to the quarterfinals in both singles and doubles. As a result of her success, she was moved up to the Grade 1 ITF junior circuit.

Wimbledon was Swiatek’s only junior grand slam victory. However, at the French Open, she won the junior grand slam for doubles.

In 2019, she started competing consistently in WTA tournaments and quickly rose to the top 50. She advanced to the 2019 French Open quarterfinals and her first WTA final this year. She won the French Open in 2020, and she did it decisively, dropping no more than five games in any of her matches. In 2021, she became the world’s number 10 after winning the Italian Open.

In 2022, she swept the master’s tournaments in Qatar and Indiana Wells. Both the French and US Opens in 2022 were won by her again. And in Miami, she took home the WTA 1000 trophy as well. Among the many accolades Swiatek has received are “WTA Fan Favorite Shot of the Year” for 2019, “WTA Fan Favorite Singles Player of the Year” for 2020, and so on.
