By dancing while the music for the 2022 Emmy Awards attempted to play her off-stage, Jennifer Coolidge produced one of the show’s most memorable meme-worthy moments.
Tanya McQuoid, the character she played in the HBO limited series “The White Lotus,” earned Coolidge the Emmy for outstanding supporting actress in a limited or anthology series or film. The prize was presented on Monday evening.
Coolidge, dressed in a glistening emerald green outfit, responded, “Hey, hi.” There were many humorous passages in Coolidge’s speech, such as when she claimed that taking a lavender bath prior to the awards ceremony had caused her to “swell up in my frock” and made it difficult for her to talk. Coolidge resisted as the music began to play her off the stage and continued to express gratitude to everyone. Coolidge began to sway her hips and dance to the beat as the music shifted to a jazzy rendition of “Hit the Road Jack.”
Some Twitter users condemned the Emmys for being so brazen as to play Coolidge off during her address, while others appreciated her speech and considered it humorous.
