One person was killed in a shooting that happened early in the morning outside a Birmingham nightclub. Off-duty At 2:40 a.m. on Saturday, security officers at Playhouse II in Birmingham called the police radio to say that someone had been shot in an alley in the 200 block of Fourth Street North.
Officer Truman Fitzgerald said that when North Precinct officers arrived, they found what they think is an adult male who was not moving in the alley across the street from the club. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service said the person was dead at the scene.
Fitzgerald said that the police think the victim was at the club when there was a fight. Shell casings found at the scene of the crime show that the shots that killed him were fired in the alley.
A person of interest who was being questioned by club security was taken into custody.

Fitzgerald said that two BPD officers and private security hired by Playhouse II were working at the club. When the shooting took place outside, there were still people in the club. The victim’s family members were there and looked very upset.
Detectives were talking to witnesses, but police think there may be more who haven’t been found yet.
Fitzgerald said, “We know there were a lot of people out here, and we just want anyone who saw anything to come forward.”
The name of the victim has not been made public yet. He is the 118th person to be killed in the city this year. Seven of them have been found to be okay, so they are not considered crimes. There have been 159 murders in Jefferson County as a whole, 118 of them in Birmingham.
