August 31 should be noted on the calendars of CRPG enthusiasts. Baldur’s Gate 3 will be released in its entirety on that day, a little under three years after it first surfaced on Steam’s early access program. The game’s creator, Larian Studios, has disclosed that the minimum PC specifications have been raised in addition to the launch date.
Baldur’s Gate 3 joined Steam Early Access in October 2020, much to the delight of fans of the legendary CRPG series. Baldur’s Gate 3 made our list of the Most Anticipated Games of 2023 despite the long (almost) three-year wait due to excitement over the game’s release this year.
The release date of August 31 was announced by the developer yesterday during Sony’s State of Play event. There was also a brand-new trailer with J.K. Simmons, who is well-known for his work on Spider-Man, Whiplash, and Invincible. Even yet, I’ll always associate him with Vernon Schillinger from the outstanding prison drama Oz from the 1990s.
In Baldur’s Gate 3, Simmons portrays General Ketheric Thorm, a necromancer who commands an army of the dead as they advance on the Baldur’s Gate metropolis. One of the game’s three primary adversaries will be encountered by players.
In a separate post, Larian said that Baldur’s Gate 3’s:
“graphical fidelity and complexity has improved quite a bit as it’s grown throughout Early Access.” As such, the minimum PC hardware requirements have been increased, though they’re still pretty forgiving.

- Memory: 8 GB RAM
- Graphics: Nvidia GTX 970 / RX 480 (4GB+ of VRAM)

- Storage: 150 GB available space
In comparison to some contemporary games, the recommended specifications aren’t that bad either. For 1080p/60 FPS gameplay, A Plague Tale Requiem, for example, calls for an RTX 3070.

At the Sony event, crossplay for BG3 on Mac, PC, and PS5 at launch was also revealed. Also, the game will support local split-screen co-op and come in Collector’s and Digital Deluxe editions that are packed with goodies.
