Cameron Boyce, known for his parts in the “Descendants” series on the Disney Channel and the TV show “Jessie,” has died. He had just turned 20. Boyce died Saturday night. His family told ABC News that he had died.
A “long-term medical condition” was given as the reason for death. “It is with a weighty heart that we tell you that Cameron passed away this morning,” a representative for the Boyce family said. “He died in his sleep because he had a seizure caused by a health problem he was being treated for. Undoubtedly, the world has lost one of its brightest stars, but his spirit will live on in the kindness and compassion of everyone who knew and loved him.
“We are so sad and ask for privacy as we mourn the loss of our precious son and brother.
The young actor had devoted himself to charity work in the past few years. He introduced former Vice President Joe Biden at his Biden Courage Awards in March. He was given the Pioneering Spirit Award at last year’s Thirst Gala, which was put on by the Thirst Project, a charity for which Boyce had raised $30,000 to build wells in Swaziland so that people there could get clean drinking water.
Boyce, from Los Angeles, started acting at 9 in the horror movie “Mirrors.” Two years later, he played one of Adam Sandler’s kids in the hit movie “Grown Ups,” which was made by Sandler himself.
“Too Young. Too sweet. Too funny. “Just the nicest, smartest, and most decent kid around,” Sandler wrote on Twitter on Sunday. “That kid was great. Had a lot of love for his family. So concerned about the world. Cameron, thank you for everything you did for us. There was so much more to come. All of us have broken hearts. We are very sorry and are thinking of your wonderful family. Boyce became famous when he played one of the main characters on the Disney Channel show “Jessie.” He played Luke Ross, and Debby Ryan played the title role of Jessie Prescott. “Jessie” had 98 episodes over four seasons.
Boyce’s role in the “Descendants” movies, which were the most watched movies on cable TV in 2015 and 2017, took him to even higher levels.
“Ever since he was a child, Cameron Boyce wanted to show the world how good he was at art. “When he was young, he had a strong desire to help people through his humanitarian work,” a Disney Channel spokesperson said. “He was a very talented performer, a very caring and thoughtful person, and most of all, he was a loving and devoted son, brother, grandson, and friend.
“We send our deepest condolences to his family, cast members, and coworkers, and we share the sadness of his many millions of fans over his untimely death. He will be missed very much.”
Bob Iger, chairman and chief executive officer of the Walt Disney Co., added in a post on Twitter: “The Walt Disney Company mourns the loss of #CameronBoyce, who was a friend to so many of us, and filled with so much talent, heart and life, and far too young to die. Our prayers go out to his family and his friends.”

Boyce just posted a headshot of himself on Instagram on Friday. He had 8.1 million followers.
He was also going to be a regular on the new HBO show “Mrs. Fletcher,” which stars Kathryn Hahn, and on the TV show “Paradise City,” which is based on the movie “American Satan” and is about how rock stars make it in the music business.
Boyce’s sudden death caused a lot of people, especially those who had worked with him, to post sad things on social media.
Kenny Ortega, who directed “Descendants,” also wrote on Instagram about Boyce, “My love, light, and prayers go out to Cameron and his family.”
“Every day I was with Cameron, he brought love, laughter, and kindness,” Ortega wrote. “His talent is beyond measure. Kindness and generosity poured out of him. It’s been an honor and a pleasure to know and work with him. I’ll see you again, my friend, in all that is loving and beautiful. I will look for your light among the stars. Cam, rest in peace. You’ll always be My Forever Boy!”
Charles Esten, who played the father of Cameron Boyce’s character Luke Ross on “Jessie,” tweeted, “My family and I are devastated today by the loss of our young and amazing friend, Cameron Boyce.”
“We were lucky to know him and his wonderful family at the elementary school where our kids all went,” Esten wrote on Twitter. “It was there we were introduced to his endless talent, kindness, and joy for living. At his very 1st talent show, little Cameron’s dancing lit up the stage, and left everyone on their feet, cheering. It was clear to all that he was destined to be the star he would soon become.”

Antonio Sabato Jr., an actor and model who worked with Boyce on the ABC soap opera “General Hospital,” also used Twitter to show his sadness.
“May You Rest In Peace” “It was a pleasure to work with you and spend time with you, Cameron Boyce,” Sabato wrote. “Man, my heart is broken. That kid is great, and he or she has a great future. My deepest condolences to his family & friends. All of us will miss you. #bokenheart “
Jamal Sims, an actor on the show “Descendants,” also shared his sadness on Instagram.
“My heart is broken 💔 Shine on, my friend your light will continue to shine,” Sims wrote. “Thank you for sharing your gift and your love with us all. #restinpower @thecameronboyce.”
