Why Has Shannon Sharpe Decided to Leave Undisputed?

Shannon Sharpe and Skip Bayless have called it quits. The long-running panelists have cohosted FS1’s “Undisputed” since it started in 2016. According to Ryan Glasspiegel of the New York Post, the partnership will cease shortly after the 2023 NBA Finals.

Sharpe has agreed with Fox Sports, FS1’s parent company, to quit the network. He’ll also bring his popular podcast, “Club Shay Shay,” with him.

Sharpe made it official the day after the NBA Finals, thanking Bayless and crying as he signed out for the last time.

But, after all these years, why is Sharpe quitting “Undisputed”? The 54-year-old Pro Football Hall of Famer’s decision appears to be connected to his deteriorating relationship with his long-time cohost.

Why is Shannon Sharpe Leaving Undisputed?

Shannon Sharpe has not officially said why he is leaving Undisputed. His resignation, however, appears to be due to his strained relationship with Skip Bayless.

Bayless and Sharpe have been known to spar frequently in the air. Of course, that is the idea of the program, but there have been a few moments where there appears to be genuine hostility between the two.

For example, when Sharpe took exception to Bayless’ portrayal of his playing career, the two nearly collided. It happened while Bayless was congratulating Tom Brady on his long job.

Look at the tweet posted by the Offical account of theScore. You can also find more information about Shannon Sharpe is reportedly leaving ‘Undisputed’ by reading the below tweet:-

“This man is playing at a high level at 45 when you had to stop at 35,” Bayless told the New York Post.

Sharpe retaliated by snapping at Bayless.

“Every time I call something into question, I get it … I did what I did! You make it seem like I was a bum!” Sharpe said. “I’m in the effin’ Hall of Fame. I got three Super Bowls!”

As a result, a series of little episodes of this nature strained their relationship. However, tensions between the long-time cohosts erupted after Damar Hamlin collapsed during the Bills-Bengals “Monday Night Football” game in Week 17 of the 2022 NFL season.

Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe’s Beef Over Damar Hamlin

Sharpe and Bayless’ friendship appeared to end after Bayless’ comments on Damar Hamlin’s cardiac arrest.

Following Hamlin’s deαth, Bayless issued an insensitive tweet regarding Hamlin’s death. Many current and former NFL players reacted negatively to his comments concerning the resumption of the Bills-Bengals game, and Sharpe was clearly agitated by his cohost’s remarks.

The day after Hamlin’s heart attαck, Sharpe did not appear on Undisputed. When Sharpe returned to the show, he sought to explain his absence in response to Bayless’ tweet.

His cohost, however, cut him off before he could finish his point. This irritated Sharpe, who then openly denounced Bayless for what he had posted.

Why Has Shannon Sharpe Decided to Leave Undisputed?

Sharpe added, “I can’t even get through a monologue without you interrupting me.” “I was just going to say, Skip, I didn’t want to get into a situation yesterday where Damar Hamlin was an issue.”

We should have been discussing him instead of [getting] into your tweet. That’s precisely what I intended to accomplish. But you can’t even let me finish my introduction without interrupting.”

Meanwhile, Bayless said he didn’t think they’d discuss the tweet. That only made the show’s debut more awkward.

Many onlookers noticed the tension between the two was real and apparent throughout this portion. As a result, many people projected that the two would split up shortly, including Marcellus Wiley, who worked with both at FS1 from 2018 to the summer of 2022.

“This is primitive. Wiley remarked in an Instagram video, “This is two alphas fighting for territory.” “It’s all about power.” Because the power dynamic on that program has changed, whether it’s actual or imagined. We’re all witnessing that war right now. Let’s see who comes out on top.”

“Reminds me of a Wiley-ism: Any relationship that ends, you spend half your time breaking up,” he continued. “What we’re seeing on live TV right now is them breaking up. They don’t even speak outside the building, outside of the event. Do you want to know how I know? We were all aware of it. To Skip, it felt like an ambush.”

Indeed, as Wiley pointed out, Bayless and Sharpe’s friendship was strained. It will no longer exist – at least not professionally.

The only unanswered issues are where Sharpe will take his podcast and who will join Bayless on “Undisputed.”
