The photo-sharing site Meta Platform said Thursday that Instagram was back up for most users after a global outage. It also said that a technical problem that had been going on for hours had been fixed.

“Earlier tonight, a technical issue caused people to have trouble accessing Instagram. We resolved this issue for everyone as quickly as possible,” Instagram said in a tweet.

Downdetector, a website that keeps track of outages, said that at its worst, more than 53,000 Instagram users couldn’t get on the site. The website gathers status reports from a number of sources, such as errors on its platform that users report.
As Instagram was coming back online, Downdetector said that the number of reports of outages in the US had dropped below 1,000.

The number of problems reported in the UK, India, Japan, and Australia dropped to less than 100, a website that tracks outages showed.
