After an outstanding fifth season on Netflix, there is a lot of anticipation for Cobra Kai Season 6. A follow-up offshoot series to the original Karate Kid movies is Cobra Kai. Many actors from the aforementioned movies, including Ralph Macchio and William Zabka, are present in the series.
The first two seasons of the series debuted on YouTube Premium before moving to Netflix for Season 3 in January 2021. The fourth and fifth seasons of Cobra Kai were subsequently made available in December 2021 and September 2022, respectively. Well, if you’re wondering about the potential Cobra Kai season 6 release date and other information about the drama series, then you’ve come to the right place.
Cobra Kai Season 6 Release Date 2023
Cobra Kai was picked up by Netflix for a sixth and final season in January 2023. The show’s fifth season received an unprecedented 100% critics score, thus the renewal wasn’t shocking. There has been some updating recently, but there is no official indication of when Season 6 will begin. Cobra Kai actor Ralph Macchio stated during his presentation at the Atlanta Comic-Con that filming for the show would begin, “They’re writing the scripts now, and we’re supposed to start in Atlanta in probably this spring. I think May is the pencil plan to get started. I can’t wait.”
In April 2023, Elite Martial Arts of Brentwood owner Daniel Klapheke said that Season 6 fight prep for William Zabka and Martin Kove was complete. The Writers Guild of America (WGA) writers strike, which started in May 2023, severely hampered filming.
The show will eventually stop filming either after the first episode’s filming is finished or after the first three episodes’ filming is over. Showrunner of Cobra Kai Jon Hurwitz announced on May 2 on X (formerly known as Twitter) that the writers’ room would be at the picket line in support of the ongoing strike:
“We hate to strike, but if we must, we strike hard. Pencils down in the Cobra Kai writers’ room. No writers on set. These aren’t fun times, but it’s unfortunately necessary. The moment a fair deal is in place, we’ll get back to kicking ass. In the meantime, sending strength and support to the negotiating committee. You got this.”

The Screen Actors Guild led its own strike in July 2023 in addition to the writers’ strike, severely delaying the start of Season 6 filming. When Cobra Kai Season 6 will begin filming is currently unknown. If manufacturing starts up again in late 2023 or early 2024, it might terminate no later than the middle or end of 2024. Taking into account things like post-production and reshoots, Season 6 might most likely start streaming in late 2024 or early 2025.
Is Cobra Kai Ending With Season 6?
Cobra Kai was renewed for a sixth season by Netflix, and the streaming provider also declared that this would be the show’s final season. Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg, the creators of Cobra Kai, acknowledged that the show would eventually come to an end in their official statement, but they also expressed hope for “telling more ‘Karate Kid’ stories” in the future:
“The upcoming Season Six will mark the conclusion of ‘Cobra Kai.’ While this may be a bittersweet day for the fandom, the Miyagiverse has never been stronger. This fandom is the BEST on the planet and we hope to be telling more ‘Karate Kid’ stories with you down the line. Because as we all know, Cobra Kai Never Dies.”
Hurwitz stated in February 2023 that the choice to stop Cobra Kai after six seasons was not made by Netflix. The showrunners, who claimed to have “always wanted to end Cobra Kai on [their] own terms:” made the final decision to cancel the program.
“Netflix didn’t tell us it was the last season. We told them it was the last season. We’ve always wanted to end Cobra Kai on our own terms and we are grateful we have the opportunity to do so.”
Hurwitz concluded by stating once more that they haven’t “finished with the Miyagiverse” yet and dropping a hint that spin-offs could yet happen: “But that doesn’t mean we’re finished with the Miyagiverse. We love this world.”

What Will Happen in Cobra Kai Season 6?
After defeating Silver, Johnny and Daniel will lead their students in Cobra Kai season 6. The conclusion of the year-long story and character arcs, as well as several emotional climaxes, are to be expected in this, the show’s final season.
The fifth season’s climax will also be strongly referenced in the plot. Cobra Kai abandoned their shady dojo and threw their gis at Silver in the end, but Miyagi Do/Eagle Fang/Miyagi Fang appear to be still going strong as they compete in the Sekai Taikai international championships with their karate. Without competing dojos, Johnny (William Zabka) and Daniel (Ralph Macchio) undoubtedly became closer as friends, but could the strain of the Sekai Taikai reignite their rivalry?
Additionally, although Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith) is in jail, John Kresse (Martin Kove), the other founder of Cobra Kai, has escaped from custody after staging his own demise with the aid of some red gelatin. Even though Silver may have been victorious, Kreese will undoubtedly have vengeance in mind when he (inevitably) makes his way back to the Valley, especially since Daniel and Johnny duped him into disclosing information about Silver. Season 6 would seem significantly different without the Cobra Kai dojo, but there would still be plenty of drama.
