Andrew Tate Faces Rape And Human Trafficking Charges in Romania

Authorities in Romania announced Tuesday that Andrew Tate had been charged with rape, human trafficking, and creating a criminal group to exploit women s*xually.

The former professional kickboxer and disgraced influencer were indicted alongside his brother Tristan Tate and two female Romanian citizens.

It comes after the brothers were arrested in December and have been in Jail or under house arrest since then.

The Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) of Romania charged Tate and his co-defendants with forming a criminal group in 2021 “in order to commit the crime of human trafficking on the territory of Romania, but also in other countries, such as the United States of America and Great Britain.”

According to the announcement, the crime syndicate deceived seven victims with “the intention to establish a marriage/cohabitation relationship and the existence of real feelings of love.”

The victims were instead transferred to premises in Ilfov County, the area around Bucharest, where they were forced to commit pornographic acts by physical and mental pressure, which were subsequently shared through social media.

The indictment also requested confiscation of many of Tate’s assets, including 15 luxury cars, 14 fancy watches, and about $300 million in bitcoin. Tate and his brother’s attorneys have both denied all of the charges.

“While this news is undoubtedly predictable, we embrace the opportunity it presents to demonstrate their innocence and vindicate their reputation,” Tate’s legal team stated.

“Our primary focus will be to establish the truth and ensure a fair and impartial examination of the evidence the legal team will submit,” the statement said.

“The indictment now allows us to present a comprehensive body of evidence, diligently collected and prepared over time, which will undoubtedly substantiate the brothers’ claims of innocence.”

DIICOT did not react quickly to PEOPLE’s request for additional comment.

According to the Romanian daily newspaper Gândul, the Tate brothers have been under investigation since April 2022.
