Clark Haggans, a 13-year NFL veteran who won a Super Bowl with the Pittsburgh Steelers after spells in Arizona and San Francisco, has d!ed. He was 46.
Colorado State University, where Haggans played in the late 1990s, confirmed his deαth on Monday. There was no mention of a cause of deαth.
In the fifth round of the 2000 draft, the Steelers took a chance on Haggans. He reacted by becoming a special teams ace before progressing to a starting job opposite Joey Porter on a defense that was consistently ranked among the best in the NFL.
Haggans had his best season in 2005. He had a career-high nine sacks and was a disruptive factor in the playoffs, helping Pittsburgh win three straight road games to go to the Super Bowl. Haggans had one of three Pittsburgh sacks in the Steelers’ fifth championship game versus the Seahawks.
Haggans moved west to Arizona in 2008, but suffered a foot injury in mid-December, causing him to miss the Cardinals’ postseason run, which ended with a loss to Pittsburgh in the Super Bowl.

Haggans played with Arizona from 2008 to 2011 before joining the 49ers for his last season, ending with 46.5 sacks in 172 games.
Haggans was born in Torrance, California, and attended Colorado State University in the late 1990s. He led the Rams to two Western Athletic Conference championships, and his 33 sacks remain a program record. He was the father of a son and a daughter.
