Los Angeles Streets Are Filled With Gunfire and Frantic Pursuits

According to law enforcement officials, numerous police agencies were involved in a frantic chase through the streets of Los Angeles on Friday afternoon that was broken up by gunfire.

A suspected carjacker was shot as he sped away from the police in a truck. Video from KTLA-TV Channel 5 showed the car’s windscreen with what appeared to be gunshot wounds.

Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies claim that the man fired at least four shots at the cops.

In Chino, the chase started shortly before 2:30 p.m. when police pursued an unruly driver. A law enforcement officer claimed the driver wouldn’t stop despite colliding with a car.

The driver allegedly carjacked a pickup vehicle after entering a Corona petrol station. Images of the man stopping on the 91 Freeway close to the 55 Freeway and firing at officers with an assault-style rifle were shown on KABC-TV Channel 7.

Unknown agency officers responded by firing back. There were no reported injuries.

The suspect stopped at an intersection where students were exiting a Long Beach high school, according to KTLA CCTV, at one point during the high-speed pursuit. The motorist swerved to avoid the students and kept going.

After the pickup collided with a light pole near 253rd Street and Western Avenue in Los Angeles, the pursuit ended around 4:15 p.m. Police surrounded the suspect and took him into custody.
