15 Shot, 1 Fatally, in Weekend Gun Violence Across City, Authorities Says

 At least 14 people were hurt and one person was killed over the weekend in shootings in different parts of Chicago.

On Saturday, a man was shot and killed while sitting in a car in Lawndale on the West Side. At 1:20 a.m. in the 4800 block of West Lexington Street, Orlando Ware, 41, was in the car when a silver sedan drove by and someone inside opened fire, according to Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

He was shot several times and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he died, according to the police. There were no reports of arrests. On Chicago’s Southwest Side on Saturday night, three people were shot and hurt, two of them seriously. No one was killed.

Police say the shooting happened just after 10 p.m. in the 3400 block of West 79th Street in the Ashburn neighborhood. A dark-colored Charger fired shots at a car with a driver and two other people inside.

Police say that the 23-year-old driver was shot multiple times in the torso and taken to Christ Hospital in critical condition. One passenger, an 18-year-old man, was shot in the head and taken to the same hospital in critical condition.

Police said that another passenger, a woman who was 18 years old, was cut on the shoulder and taken to Christ Hospital in good condition. No one is in custody, and detectives from Area One are looking into what happened.

On Friday night, a bullet fired from the outside hit a man inside his South Side home. At 11:37 a.m., someone was shot in the 7900 block of South May Street in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood, police said.

A bullet broke a window and hit a man in the neck, who was 39 years old. Police say the victim was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where his condition is “fair.” No one is in custody, and detectives from Area Two are looking into what happened.

Last weekend, at least 16 people were shot in different parts of the city, and two died.
