Neil deGrasse Tyson is an American astronomer, writer, and science communicator. Tyson went to school at Harvard, the University of Texas at Austin, and Columbia. From 1991 to 1994, he worked at Princeton University as a research associate after getting his PhD. In 1994, he became a staff scientist at the Hayden Planetarium and a visiting research scientist and lecturer at Princeton. In 1996, he became the director of the planetarium. From 1996 to 2000, he oversaw the $210 million project to rebuild the planetarium. He has been in charge of the Rose Center for Earth and Space’s Hayden Planetarium in New York City since 1996.

His African-American father, Cyril DeGrasse Tyson (1927–2016), was a sociologist, the human resources commissioner for New York City mayor John Lindsay, and the first Director of Harlem Youth Opportunities Unlimited His Puerto Rican mother, Sunchita Maria Tyson, was born in 1928 and worked as a gerontologist for the U.S. Department of Health, Education, and Welfare. Tyson and his wife, Alice Young, live in the Tribeca neighborhood of Lower Manhattan. Miranda and Travis are their children. Tyson met his wife in a University of Texas at Austin physics class. They married in 1988 and named their first child Miranda, after Uranus’s smallest moon. Sexual Misconduct Allegations
Between November and December of 2018, four women accused Tyson of s*xual misconduct. In 1984, when they were both graduate students at UT Austin, Thchiya Amet El Maat said that Tyson drugged and raped her. A professor at Bucknell University named Katelyn Allers said that Tyson touched her in an inappropriate way at an American Astronomical Society meeting in 2009.
In 2018, Tyson’s assistant on the show Cosmos, Ashley Watson, said that Tyson made unwanted sexual advances toward her, which made her quit her job a few days later.
