The AJC said that most people think the famous football coach will only be in the hospital for a short time. Dooley, who coached the Bulldogs from 1964 to 1988, also has a mild case of COVID-19, according to his daughter.
Deanna told AJC that it would be better for him to get the medicine through an IV at the hospital. “He hates missing the game, but he has a great way to watch all the games all day.”
In his 25 years as head coach, Dooley led the Dawgs to the 1980 National Championship, six SEC Championships, 20 bowl games, and a career record of 201-77-10. He was only the ninth coach in NCAA Division I history to win more than 200 games.

Herschel Walker, who won the Heisman Trophy in 1982, and Bill Stanfill, who won the Outland Award in 1968, are just two of the many young men Dooley has helped. He has also influenced 40 First Team All-Americans and 10 Academic All-Americans.
He was named SEC Coach of the Year seven times, NCAA District Coach of the Year six times, and 1980 NCAA National Coach of the Year in almost every poll. In 1982, Chevrolet-WTBS named him Coach of the Year.
During his time as athletic director, both men’s and women’s teams on the Bulldogs won 24 national titles and 78 SEC titles.
Vince Dooley has written more than one book, and he was supposed to be at the UGA Bookstore on Saturday, but he got sick and couldn’t make it. “Dooley’s Playbook” is the name of his most recent book.
