Is Vikings: Valhalla Season 3 Happening?

Fans don’t have to worry that season 2 will be the show’s last episode. Netflix renewed Vikings: Valhalla for a third season at the same time as the second season. This means that there will be at least eight more episodes after season 2.

Vikings: Valhalla’s three-season order has been in place since the show was first announced. In November 2019, Netflix bought 24 episodes. As soon as the first season’s first eight episodes came out in February 2022, it was clear that the 24 episodes would be split into three parts. Netflix hasn’t said what will happen to the show after season 3.

Who Will Play Erik the Red in the Vikings: Valhalla Season 3?

In case you haven’t heard, Netflix announced in June 2022 that Goran Visnjic, a veteran of ER and Timeless, will play Leif Eriksson and Freyds Eirksdóttir’s father Erik the Red in season 3 of Vikings: Valhalla.

Deadline calls the casting a “multi-year arc,” which seems to mean that Visnjic will stay on board if the show is picked up for more seasons.

Erik the Red is living in Greenland as punishment for the crimes he did in Iceland and Norway. This is where we meet him in season 3. Fans will have to wait until season 2 to find out if there are any hints that he is about to show up and what Leif and Freyds’s future might look like if their families get back together.

Is Vikings: Valhalla Season 3 Filming?

What’s on Netflix says that filming for Vikings: Valhalla season 3 began in May 2022 and continued through the summer. Netflix hasn’t said for sure when filming will end, but it’s possible that it will be well before January 2023, when season 2 will be released. But it’s important to note that Suter and Corlett still had the long hair their characters are known for at the December 2022 premiere of Season 2.

If filming for season 3 did end in late summer or fall of 2022, then post-production would take up most of 2023. This would mean that the show could come out at the end of 2023 or in early 2024.

Vikings: Valhalla has a tradition of coming out at the beginning of the year, and season 3 is likely to follow that pattern.
