Trump Criticizes Abbott for Failing to Address Paxton’s Impeachment

Former President Trump has chastised Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) for being silent on the impeachment of controversial Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.

“MISSING IN ACTION!” Trump tweeted on Saturday in a Truth Social post. “Where is the Governor of Texas on his Attorney General’s Impeachment?”

Abbott has been a prominent Republican figure and Trump’s close ally. He has recently caught the ire of the Biden administration after he and other Republican governors in southern states bused migrants to northern, Democratic-led towns in recent months to protest the end of Title 42.

On Saturday, the Texas House of Representatives voted to impeach Paxton. The vote was 121-23, with five state legislators either missing or present but not voting. As a result, Paxton will be suspended from office, awaiting the outcome of a trial in the state Senate.

The impeachment follows the release of a report by the state House investigation committee on Thursday, which recommended his impeachment. According to the committee’s conclusions, Paxton took bribes and fired the deputies who reported it, among other things.

The 20-count resolution also alleges improper favors for donors, meddling in government investigations, and retaliation against whistleblowers.

Paxton fought against the claims, calling them a politically motivated attαck by state House Speaker Dade Phelan.

Phelan, according to Paxton, “wants nothing more than to sabotage our legal challenges to Biden’s extremist agenda by taking me out as the state’s Attorney General.”
