Tonya Harding (now Tonya Price) is a wealthy American former Olympic figure skater. Harding won the 1991 Figure Skating Championships and finished second in the World Championships.
She was the first American woman in competition history to land a triple axel. Unfortunately, she is arguably most known for her suspected role in a 1994 attαck on fellow figure skater Nancy Kerrigan, which resulted in Tonya’s lifetime suspension from figure skating.
Tonya Harding’s Net Worth
Tonya Harding (now Tonya Price) is a wealthy American former Olympic figure skater with a net worth of $150,000 dollars.
Tonya Harding Early Life
Tonya Maxene Harding was born in Portland, Oregon, on November 12, 1970. Her mother, LaVona, was a waitress, and her father, Albert (who d!ed in 2009), worked as an apartment manager and truck driver. Tonya began skating at three and trained with coach Diane Rawlinson.
Tonya’s figure skating attire was hand-sewed by LaVona because the family couldn’t afford to buy them. Harding’s parents divorced when she was 16, and she dropped out of Milwaukie High School during her sophomore year to pursue her skating career full-time.
Tonya completed her GED in 1988. Harding claimed that her mother abused her physically and psychologically, and “The Tonya Tapes,” a 2008 authorized biography, claimed that Tonya was raped by an acquaintance in 1991 and molested by her half-brother, Chris Davison, during her youth.

Tonya Harding Skating Career
Tonya finished sixth in the United States Figure Skating Championships in 1986, fifth in the next two years, and third in 1989. After winning the 1989 Nationals Championship, she continued training with coach Dody Teachman and won the Skate America tournament that year.
Despite being in second place at one stage during the 1990 United States Figure Skating Championships, Harding finished ninth due to asthma and the virus. She became the first American woman to perform a triple Axel while participating in the 1991 U.S. Championships.
She also won the US Ladies’ Singles title that year and finished second in the World Championships. Tonya finished third in the United States Figure Skating Championships, fourth in the Winter Olympics, sixth in the World Championships, and fourth in the Skate Canada International competition in 1992.
Harding won the US Championships in 1994, but her title was withdrawn after the Nancy Kerrigan incident. She finished ninth in the 1994 Winter Olympics, and despite being barred from figure skating, she competed in the 1999 ESPN Pro Skating Championship and finished second.

As it turned out, Tonya’s ex-husband, Jeff Gillooly, and his buddy Shawn Eckhardt had hired the assailant. Harding denied any prior knowledge of the incident, although Gillooly, Eckhardt, and assailant Shane Stant later testified that she was well aware of the events and even helped arrange them.
Tonya was allowed to compete in the Olympics in 1994. Upon her return to the United States from Lillehammer, Tonya pleaded guilty to having knowledge of the attαck after the fact and failing to report it.
She was sentenced to three years of probation, 500 hours of community service, and a $100,000 fine, and on June 30, 1994, the United States Figure Skating Association barred her from the sport.
