The return of Brendan Fraser may now get underway. A first trailer for the upcoming thriller “The Whale,” directed by Darren Aronofsky, has been published by A24. In the film, Brendan Fraser plays a dad who suffers from obesity and has a difficult time reconnecting with his daughter, who is 17 years old.

This is Aronofsky’s first directorial attempt since his last picture, “mother!,” which received mixed reviews from reviewers and audience members. The first trailer for “The Whale” was released shortly after it was announced that the film will have its debut in front of an international audience at the 2022 Venice Film Festival.

Every film that Darren Aronofsky has made to this point has been photographed by Libatique, with the exception of “The Wrestler,” which was shot by Maryse Alberti. Although Fraser appeared in Steven Soderbergh’s “No Sudden Movie” as a supporting character in 2018, “The Whale” represents a significant comeback for the actor in his first main role since the action film “Breakout,” which was released directly to DVD in 2013.
