The Resort Ending Explained: What’s Next for Emma and Noah?

The Resort by Peacock seems to be one of those shows people fall in love with by accident after seeing it just once. I speak from personal experience when I say what I just said is true. I had severe doubts about the show, but it ended up being even better than I had anticipated.

I’m not sure if I’m satisfied with the finale. The episode explains and partly solves the central mystery, but it doesn’t talk about some of its more personal and tragic themes in a way that makes sense.

The last episode flies over its clever banter and situational humor, which I realize wasn’t the program’s objective, but as we close, I miss it.

The Resort “The Disillusionment of Time” Recap

Violet finds Sam’s shoes and leaves a note for him after waking up in the bush. Violet travels alone to Pasaje. As soon as the scene moves to the present, Emma, Noah, Baltasar, and Murray follow her into the underground bunker.

The cave is now submerged in water as the four enter it. They quickly locate a raft and use it to paddle through the pitch-black cave until they reach a clearing. They all ponder whether this is Pasaje, but they are unsure because neither their bodily nor mental states appear to have changed.

Emma and Baltasar decide to split into two groups after finding two different tunnels after a little more searching, with Noah boarding Emma into the first tunnel. As a storm approaches, Sam awakens 15 years later, only to discover Violet has vanished.

While the water inside the cave was quickly filling, Violet, on the other hand, dove deep inside. Murray admits to Baltasar that he stopped looking for Violet at a certain point in the current timeline. He claimed that despite his best efforts, he could keep himself busy with other activities (related to the human drive for survival). Still, after the commotion subsided, he did return to Violet.

Following his confession, Murray and Baltasar discover some eggs. After that, Baltasar unexpectedly finds himself facing a yellow snake with four noses (a little on-the-nose metaphor for him coming to terms with being a Frias and being able to handle the burden of being one).

Sam discovers Violet in the gloomy cave as the water begins to fill. She responds that she left a note for him when he asks her why she left him behind. She replies that it doesn’t matter when he asks what it stated (foreshadowing the reasons for certain things that will happen in the episode with no resolve or motivation).

They feel trapped and fear for their lives as the water keeps rising and Sam can’t seem to discover a route out or even the way he entered. Emma and Noah feel like they’re stuck in the present for a while before Emma sees a very narrow tunnel at a very high height.

She climbs to the top with Noah’s help and goes in, but as she gets closer, she sees it’s getting smaller. He cannot follow up since it is too high, but she asks him to when she returns. Of course, he can’t get there because Emma must carry the luggage on her own for the final leg of the journey. She goes forward by herself until she gets stuck between two rocks and can’t go forward or back.

The Resort Ending Explained

The episode ends with close-cut scenes showing Emma trapped and hyperventilating and Sam and Violet on the verge of dying due to the rising water level. The show eventually delivers the knockout blow that connects the two timelines. A fleeting moment occurs when Emma shuts her eyes to hear her child scream.

At that point, Emma musters all her strength from her sadness and pushes over the obstacle holding her back. She passes through and comes to a spot where she can see a pool of white liquid with Sam and Violet’s suspended bodies floating inside it. They don’t feel dead, although they appear to be.

Emma realizes that she has finally arrived at Pasaje, a room outside of time, and the white liquid also feels like the kind of time gate we had anticipated from the first episode. She hears her child laughing as she bends over on her knees, reaches down, and looks at the pool of white water.

While grinning, she removes each floating body one at a time. She first takes out Sam and then Violet, absolutely astonished at the thought of such a thing happening. In the next scene, Murray and Baltasar can’t say a word when Violet and Sam come out of the tunnel.

Sam tells Baltasar that it has only been 5 minutes since they floated inside, whereas it has been 15 years outside, while Murray breaks down and clutches his daughter closely. Baltasar asks Sam what happened while they were floating, but he replies that he doesn’t remember and inserts his fingers in his ears (perhaps a hint to Alex? ), leaving Baltasar with a new set of puzzles to solve. None of them can make sense of this predicament.

When Emma inquires if Violet saw her mother when she was in there, Violet nods and explains that it still aches. Emma sobs and comforts her by claiming that things will get better despite all the pain, while subtly trying to persuade herself to overcome her loss.

Then, while Noah questions Emma about why she did not jump into the ocean herself, they shoot flare guns to signal for the helicopter to take them up. She said she did not want to lose those “15 years with him.”

When Luna and Baltasar are enjoying a drink, the season comes to an end. Baltasar tells them to go back to Pasaje and try to get in for 30 seconds to see what happens. Baltasar hands Luna a message and says farewell after learning that she isn’t interested.

As he walks away, we notice that the silhouettes of the three (Baltasar, Luna, and Alex) are sewn onto his freshly-made suit. Opening the note, Luna initially reacts with astonishment before chasing after him. You may wonder what this means.

If I had my way, it would point to a different mystery in which Baltasar and Luna try to find Alex. Maybe he is also trapped in the space between time, and for reasons known only to the creators, they could not locate him this time. The resort will undoubtedly have a second season, though I doubt it would have the same appeal without Cristin Milioti.
