Despite only having been on YouTube for a little over a decade, Technoblade has approximately 11 million subscribers. According to his family, Minecraft YouTuber Technoblade passed away on Friday at the age of 23 after a year-long struggle with cancer.
Father and son shared an emotional goodbye message with their YouTube viewers in a video called “so long geeks.” It began, “Hello everyone, Technoblade here,” with the message. “If you’re reading this, thanks for your attention. I’m no longer here.”
Technoblade disclosed that his real surname was Alex in the video, which he had previously kept a secret. He also thanked his followers for their support, joked that his siblings “are going to college” and thanked them for purchasing items and channel memberships.

“In the event that I was given a hundred more lives, I guess I’d choose to be Technoblade again each time. Thank you for your time and attention, and I hope you all have a long, prosperous, and happy life ahead of you!” Technoblade garnered nearly 11 million YouTube subscribers and 3.7 million Twitter followers in just under a decade as he expressed his love for Minecraft, a videogame in which players can construct virtual worlds out of blocks and invent their own narratives.

It was in August 2021 when he first made his cancer diagnosis public. He told his fans that after experiencing arm pain he thought was caused by repetitive stress injury from gaming, he sought medical care and was diagnosed with cancer.
8 hours before he died, Technoblade penned a final message to his family, according to his father. When Technoblade’s father spoke of his son, he choked back tears, calling him “the most wonderful kid” anyone could have ever hoped to have.
According to Technoblade’s family, the video has been watched more than 19 million times “Our son’s fight with stage four cancer took a toll on our family this year. This did not deter him from continuing to use his well-known strategic mind in an attempt to overcome the nearly insurmountable odds against him. All of us who had the honor of accompanying my kid on this journey learned a valuable lesson from his bravery along the way. It was an honor to be able to follow him as he worked tirelessly for the fans he loved.”

Fans, celebrities, and other gamers have all paid their respects on social media. Ted Nivison, a popular YouTuber, recalled him as follows when asked about his memories of him: “Laugh out loud funny. Infinitely gifted. Too early. The Technoblade can rest easy.”
As TommyInnit, a well-known YouTuber, tweeted: “The legend that is Technoblade is unquestionable. I can’t express how grateful I am to have been a part of his life, from a fan to a friend. I’m sure he’s plotting a way to outsmart God in heaven.” The Sarcoma Federation submitted a statement to CNN expressing its “deepest sympathies” to the family of Technoblade.

The charity’s CEO, Brandi Felser, said in a statement: “The support of Technoblade’s fans has raised more than $500,000 for sarcoma research to date. Since Technoblade’s name appeared on grants, SFA was able to donate funding for research. He has made a lasting contribution that will be felt for many years to come.”
An annual Courage Award is given to individuals who inspire others “to provide hope and a better standard of living for the sarcoma community” and will be handed to Technoblade later this year, according to Felser.
