Wahoo! The Super Mario Bros. Movie is Moving From April 7 To April 5

The release date of The Super Mario Bros. Movie has been moved up, but it will still be in theatres at the beginning of April.

In a tweet posted today, Universal announced that the new release date for The Super Mario Bros. Movie in the United States (and 60 other markets, including China, France, the United Kingdom, Italy, Germany, and Mexico) is Wednesday, April 5th, instead of Friday, April 7th, 2023.

Earlier this year, Nintendo announced that the film’s US premiere date had been moved from December 21, 2022 to April of this year.

It is unclear why The Super Mario Bros. Movie will be released in theatres before its original schedule, but given the film’s history of delays, it likely boils down to Universal, Illumination, and Nintendo’s eager to get the film into the hands of fans as soon as possible.
