When Will Street Fighter 6 Released by Roster?

Street Fighter is officially returning with Street Fighter 6, with Ryu, Chun-Li, and friends new and old taking center stage, along with a new take on the classic fighting game’s graphics like Tekken 8. It’s also a good time since Street Fighter has been around for 35 years and is ready for a big comeback (Street Fighter 5 came out in 2016).

Do you want to know more? Do you want to know if Street Fighter 6 will come to the game system you like? From now until the game comes out, Capcom will be giving out more information. Here’s what we know and what you can expect in the meantime.

Street Fighter 6 Release Date And Platform

There has been no official announcement of a release date for Street Fighter 6 by the roster. Capcom has given us a good idea of when to expect it. During Sony’s June 2022 State of Play, a new trailer showed that Street Fighter 6 will come out in the summer of 2023.

Unlike Street Fighter 5, the next game in this series won’t be exclusive to one console.

Street Fighter 6 will come out at the same time on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. This is great news for Xbox players who didn’t get to play the last game.

Street Fighter 6 Trailers

After a short countdown in February 2022, Capcom officially announced Street Fighter 6 with a teaser trailer that showed Ryu and Luke posing against each other, likely before a fight. The trailer was especially interesting for longtime fans of the series for a few reasons, including:

The teaser shows a lot of the new character Luke. That might be hard to understand since he wasn’t in the game until late 2021 when he was added in one of the last updates. But the DLCs have put a lot of focus on Luke and made it clear that he will be a big part of Street Fighter’s future, possibly in a major storyline. Now, it seems even more likely that will happen. But don’t worry, Ken and the rest of the crew will still be there at launch.

It’s not clear if the graphics in the trailer are the same as the graphics in the game (there seemed to be a little too much detail, but it’s possible), but either way, it shows a change. The models look more realistic, Ryu is older (and has a beard, which is something Capcom has tried before), and the series as a whole seems to be moving away from the ink-brush style that was used in many of the previous games.

The next time we saw Street Fighter 6, it was in Sony’s June 2022 State of Play. There, we got a good idea of the game’s hip-hop, neon, and street art style. It shows off a few characters, including fan favorites like Chun-Li and Ryu who are back. But the big reveal was the World Tour mode, which takes place in Metro City and is an open-world game. There are a few clips of character introductions before a match and quick cuts of some moves, combos, and specials in combat, but no HUD has been shown yet.

After the State of Play, the 2022 Summer Game Fest showed the first trailer for a single character in Street Fighter 6. It was for Guile, whose theme goes with everything. Guile faces off against Luke and Ryu on his famous airship stage. He has a new goatee. He does his well-known Flash Kick and Sonic Boom moves, as well as a bunch of new ones and a super, before fixing his hair and ending the match.

Street Fighter 6 Gameplay

It shouldn’t be a surprise that fighting is at the heart of Street Fighter 6. You will fight, do combos, super moves, shoot projectiles, and do all the other things you would expect. But adding a second control scheme is an interesting new feature that can help people who are new to the game. Classic controls will work with the traditional six-button layout that the series has always used, with button combinations letting you do special moves. However, a new modern control scheme makes this easier.

With modern controls, players don’t have to learn or practice complicated motions to do moves. Instead, special moves are tied to a single button, and you can do different ones depending on which way you’re moving or what’s going on when you press it.

The main new feature of Street Fighter 6 is the Drive System, which looks a little bit like the Focus feature from Street Fighter 4. Drive is a meter that lets you do one of five things: Drive Impact, Drive Parry, Overdrive, Drive Rush, or Drive Reversal. All of these have different inputs, but they all use the same Drive meter. If you want to use it for offense or defense, you’ll have to decide how much to use. Also, Read The Gameplay of Octopath Traveler II.

Roster

If you remember, Street Fighter 5 had a lot of DLC that kept adding new and returning characters. In the end, there were 46 playable characters, which was more than any other game in the series. Capcom has said that Street Fighter 6 will have an even bigger cast, with both new and old characters. This is likely to happen with a slow rollout, so don’t expect to have every choice on the first day.

After many small hints, the official Street Fighter Twitter account confirmed the following 18 characters for the first roster:

  • Luke
  • Jamie
  • Manon
  • Kimberly
  • Marisa
  • Lily
  • JP
  • Juri
  • Dee Jay
  • Cammy
  • Ryu
  • E. Honda
  • Blanka
  • Guile
  • Ken
  • Chun-Li
  • Zangief
  • Dhalsim

But just hours after the first trailer came out, a list of what looks like the entire Street Fighter 6 cast was posted online. Technically, we can’t say this list is 100% real until Capcom makes an official announcement. However, Capcom responded to it with a Tweet from the official Street Fighter account, which is a wink and a nod that it is real, and Guile was leaked and then confirmed. Besides the 18 confirmed launch characters, the following can be added at a later date:

  • Rashid
  • Ed
  • Akuma
  • Marisa
  • Mimi
  • A.K.I
