‘The Crown’ Star Stephen Greif Dead At 78

American fans may remember British actor Stephen Greif best for his appearance on “The Crown,” On Monday, his representative confirmed his death at age 78.

Season 4 of the Netflix blockbuster about Britain’s royal family featured the character actor in the role of Speaker of the House, Sir Bernard Weatherill.

Born in Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire, the English actor left behind two boys.

Greif had a long and successful career on stage and cinema, beginning in the late 1960s with the Royal Shakespeare Company of Great Britain. He played Biff in the National Theatre’s production of “Death of a Salesman,” for which he was nominated for an Olivier Award in 1979.

In the 1970s, Greif starred in the British science fiction series “Blake’s 7,” and in the ’90s, he starred in the British comedy series “Citizen Smith,” as pub owner Harry Fenning. He has also guest-starred on such cherished British shows as “Coronation Street,” “EastEnders,” and “Doctor Who.”
