‘Shazam! Fury of the Gods’: When Will It Released?

Do you know Shazam Fury of Gods’ release date?  Scroll down this post to know all details: Shazam! The long-awaited sequel to the 2019 DCEU movie Shazam! is called Fury of the Gods. This movie is about foster kid Billy Batson (Asher Angel) again. When he says the word “Shazam,” he can turn into a superhero (played by Zachary Levi). Billy fights crime and learns to love his new family with the help of his foster siblings, who have become superheroes.

The first Shazam! got a lot of good reviews for being more fun and lighthearted than the other DCEU movies, so it’s not too surprising that Warner Bros. announced in 2019 that they were making a sequel. So, we’ve made a complete, easy-to-read guide with all the information you need about Shazam! Fury of the Gods, like when it will come out, who will be in it, and if there will be another Shazam! movie after this one.

When Will Shazam! Fury of the Gods Be Released?

Shazam! Fury of the Gods was supposed to come out in theatres on December 21, 2022, but now it won’t come out until March 17, 2023. The movie was supposed to be released on April 1, 2022. But the COVID-19 pandemic pushed back the release of this sequel to November 4, 2022, and then to June 2, 2023. Warner Bros. moved Shazam! Fury of the Gods up to December 16, 2022, but then moved it back to December 21, 2022, so it wouldn’t compete with Avatar: The Way of Water.

Before the latest date change, David Zaslav the CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, said this about the movie:

“We’ve seen The Flash, Black Adam and Shazam 2. We are really looking forward to them. We’ve seen them. We think they are great, and we think we can make them even better.”

This could mean that the latest delay is due to more editing and reshooting, but that hasn’t been confirmed officially. Hopefully, there won’t be any more big changes to the movie’s release schedule.

A lot of the cast from the first Shazam! movie is back for the second one, including Zachary Levi (Chuck) and Asher Angel (Andi Mack). Currey, on the other hand, plays both versions of her character. In this movie, Helen Mirren (The Queen), Lucy Liu (Kill Bill: Vol. 1), and Rachel Zegler all play new characters (West Side Story).

Who Are the New Characters in Shazam! Fury of the Gods?

Even though there aren’t many new characters in Shazam! Fury of the Gods, they are still worth talking about. If you want to find out more about these new cast members, here’s what we know about them from trailers and interviews:

Helen Mirren plays Hespera, the first daughter of the Altas. She was a Titan, an all-powerful being from another world, and she gave Shazam his strength. Hespera doesn’t have a comic book character who is similar to her, but she is based on the Hesperides characters from Greek mythology. These creatures are nymphs, which are mythical nature spirits that look like beautiful women. Hesperides are nymphs of evenings and sunsets, and they are also the children of Atlas. They are known for guarding a garden with a golden apple tree by helping and tricking people who find it. But the Hesperide from Shazam! Fury of the Gods is a bad guy for sure.

Kalypso, one of Atlas’s other daughters, is played by Lucy Liu. Like her older sister, Kalypso is not based on an existing DC Comics character. Instead, she is based on a Greek mythology character named Calypso. In Homer’s Odyssey, Calypso is the daughter of Atlas and a nymph. She guards the island of Ogygia. After Odysseus is stuck in Ogygia for seven years, Calypso falls in love with him and keeps him there. Odysseus later asks the gods for help, and as a result, Calypso is forced to let him go. In Shazam! In Fury of the Gods, Kalypso is also a bad guy. The first trailer doesn’t show her singing and dancing to charm her enemies like in the Odyssey, but it does show her growing giant vines in a stadium.

Anthea, the youngest daughter of Atlas, is played by Rachel Zegler. Like her sister, Anthea is not from DC Comics. Instead, she comes from Greek mythology. In the second, she is a princess from the Greek city of Thespiae who is married to Hercules and has a son. In Shazam! Fury of the Gods, but Anthea is not a normal person. Instead, she is a Titan. In the first trailer, Anthea and Freddy Freeman, played by Jack Grazer, both scream at the dragon that is coming toward them. This suggests that she might switch sides at some point in the movie.

What Is Shazam! Fury of the Gods About?

As of this writing, Warner Bros. has not released an official plot summary for Shazam! We haven’t seen Fury of the Gods yet, so we’ll try to figure out what it’s about by looking at the first trailer.

This sequel is probably going to start with Billy wondering if he is a good enough superhero. Not to mention that his siblings with superpowers are doing their own things and he can’t keep them in line. But Djimon Hounsou’s character, the Wizard, who gave Billy powers in the first movie before turning into dust, tells him that the Daughters of Atlas is coming for him.

The sisters think that children stole the gods’ powers, so they fix up the Wizard’s power-transferring staff, which Billy broke in the first movie, and will probably use it to take these powers back from the Shazam Family. So far, that’s all we know, but the movie will definitely have more surprises than what we saw in the trailers.

Will There Be a Third Shazam! Movie?

There hasn’t been any news about a third Shazam! movie yet, but that doesn’t mean we can’t guess where the series could go after the second movie.

Dwayne Johnson plays the Wizard’s previous champion, Black Adam, in a movie that comes out a few months before Shazam! The gods’ anger. In the comics, Black Adam is a bad guy and anti-hero who fights Shazam a lot. The director of both Shazam! movies, David F. Sandberg, hinted on Instagram that Black Adam could show up in Shazam! Fury of the Gods, so maybe he’ll show up in a scene after the credits that tease an epic fight between him and Shazam in Shazam! 3?

There is also Dr. Sivana by Mark Strong. To review, in the middle of the credits of the first movie, Sivana is locked up and has no power. He is trying to get back into Shazam’s lair, the Rock of Eternity when he meets a talking worm who wants to work together. Many comic book readers will recognize this talking worm as Mister Mind, a telekinetic bad guy who has been one of Shazam’s enemies for a long time. As for Sivana, many comic stories have him bring back Black Adam, but Black Adam has already come back to life in his own movie. Still, Sivana and Mr. Mind could get Black Adam to kill Shazam in Shazam! 3, but then the two champions could work together to defeat Sivana and Mr. Mind. We will just have to wait and see what happens.
