Serena Williams Announces She’s Retiring From Tennis: At the US Open, Serena Williams will play her last match. The famous athlete, who is 40 years old, said in her September 2022 Vogue cover story, which came out on Tuesday, that she will quit the sport after the annual tournament so she can focus on starting a family.
She already has a 4-year-old daughter with her husband, Alexis Ohanian.
In a personal essay, she said, “These days, if I have to choose between building my tennis resume and building my family, I choose to build my family.”

Williams isn’t yet pregnant with their second child, but she wrote that she wants to have another child, but not until she’s done with sports. “Alexis Ohanian and I have been trying to have another child for the past year, and we recently got some information from my doctor that made me feel like we can add to our family whenever we’re ready,” she said.
“As an athlete, I’m sure I don’t want to get pregnant again. I have to be all in or all out when it comes to tennis.”
Williams won her first match in more than a year on Monday at the National Open in Toronto.
She said she would play at the US Open in Queens later this month, but she didn’t know if she would win.

“I’m sorry, but this year I wasn’t ready to win Wimbledon. I’m not sure if I’ll be ready to win in New York. I’ll try anyway,” she wrote.
That is the last Grand Slam event she will play in. William has won a total of 23 Grand Slams. Williams said that she is worried about her and her family’s future, even though she is trying to focus on the future.
