Scump Retires: CoD Community Pays Tribute To OpTic legend

We were all under the impression that there would be at least one more season of Scump on the main stage. However, on January 17, Abner made the decision to call it a career after realizing that he had already accomplished everything of significance in his professional Call of Duty career.

Scump began his career with OpTic in 2012 and finished it as the second-most successful player in the history of Call of Duty. He won 31 major tournaments, two gold medals at the X Games, and one global championship.

The announcement of Scump’s retirement signals the end of an era that will go down as one of the longest-tenured and most decorated in the history of esports. FormaL, Crimsix, Karma, and Nadeshot were all a part of the OpTic Gaming Dynasty, which recently announced that all of its cast members have retired from competitive gaming after winning 18 offline tournaments and one championship title.

Along the way, Abner established connections, rivalries, and lifelong fans in Call of Duty and throughout the gaming industry as a whole. Members of the Call of Duty community and others seized this final occasion to pay their respects to “the king” and thank him for everything he had done to contribute to the scene.

The Call of Duty Community Pays Homage To Scump OpTic legend

It is only appropriate to start with Matthew “Nadeshot” Haag, who linked up with Scump at the beginning of OpTic’s historic run. This is the perfect place to begin. On Twitter, Nadeshot paid tribute to the late player by writing, “The greatest Call of Duty player of all time. Scump has had more impact on the success and growth of competitive Call of Duty than any other player to date, and is one of the reasons why so many players and staff get to work in this industry that we all love so much. Love you, brother

CDL General Manager Daniel Tsay expressed his gratitude to Scump by saying, “A rare combination of talent, class, and charisma – we have been fortunate to have you for all these years. Competitive COD is forever grateful, and congrats on your new chapter, this is only the beginning!
