Sanditon Season 3 Release Date: When Will It Come Out?

Masterpiece After being off the air for a long time and almost being cancelled, the PBS show Sanditon came back in 2022. Based on an unfinished book by Jane Austen, the show had trouble finding an audience at first. Its British broadcaster, ITV, did not renew it after its first season. But Sanditon got a new start in the U.S., where it gained such a strong following that PBS surprised everyone by renewing it in May 2021.

After a long, bumpy road to television, season two ended with a shocking finale that shocked a lot of fans. After Theo James’ character Sidney Parker died, Charlotte was in another love triangle with Alexander Colbourne (Ben Lloyd-Hughes) and Colonel Lennox in the new season (Tom Weston-Jones). But the season finale ended with a twist: Charlotte announced that she was engaged to a completely different man, which set up a lot of romantic conflict for the next season.

So far, this is what we know about season three.

Sanditon season 3 has already been filmed

Fans of Sanditon won’t have to spend another break worrying about what will happen to the show, because season 3 has already been filmed. Last year, when PBS saved Sanditon, they also gave it a second and third season. Newsweek says that the two seasons were shot right after each other from July to December of 2021.

It will be the show’s final season.

In December 2022, Masterpiece PBS said in a statement that the news was true.

“Masterpiece has announced that Sanditon’s upcoming third season will be its last. The show has a loyal fan base, and the press called it “lush and fun” and “perfect escapist fare.”

Belinda Campbell, the head of Red Planet Pictures, said, “It’s so exciting to bring Sanditon back to audiences for one more trip to the beach.

This third and final season has a lot of heart and happiness that fans will love. Our loyal fans have been so great about supporting the show, and we hope they’ll enjoy how Charlotte and Georgiana’s stories end.”

Charlotte and Colbourne’s romance will still be a major part of the show

Shippers, don’t despair! In an interview with Salon, showrunner Justin Young said that Charlotte’s engagement is a “huge obstacle.” However, her relationship with Colbourne is still very much in play. “When we see him again at the beginning of Season 3, he’ll be a little bit different,” said Young of Colbourne.

Young also confirmed in another interview with Decider that the two are still very much in love with each other. “Going into Season 3, that’s the question. She loves Colbourne. He cares for her. We already know that. But now that she’s engaged to Ralph, what will happen?”

During a panel at the Television Critics Association press tour, Young also gave a vague hint about what to expect from Charlotte in season 3. He said, “There are things in Episode 1 of Season 2 that come back to haunt us in the last episode of Season 3.” And in an interview with Salon, Young made it clear that he was talking about Charlotte’s story.

“Think about where she is when Season 2 starts,” Young told them. “We meet a young woman who wants to get on with her life. She is trying to be what her family needs her to be, but then she is pulled back into Sanditon. That’s the point of these two seasons. Everything she tells Colbourne in that scene at the end of the first episode about how she thinks a young woman with that kind of independence should be is a key part of Charlotte’s journey through these two seasons.” He also said that fans will be able to see the links between Charlotte’s position in the season 2 premiere and the season 3 finale a year from now. Intriguing!

Some cast members won’t be returning

Since each season was shot right after the other, it’s likely that most of your favorite characters will be back for season 3. But it has been confirmed that Colonel Lennox and, perhaps more surprisingly, Esther Babbington won’t be back (Charlotte Spencer).

“I think Esther has everything she’s ever wanted when we leave her at the end of Season 2,” Young told Decider. “She’s happy, married, and has a child she loves, so as far as I’m concerned, that’s the end of Esther’s story.”
