Count Down: Pokémon Official Tweets Only 3 Days Away And More Updates

This week is the start of the next generation of Pokémon. Pokémon Sword and Shield, which started Generation 8, came out three years ago. Now, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet start the next part of the story. The two games are a big step forward for the franchise because they have a whole new set of Pokémon, a lot of fun features and a lot to do.

Throughout 2022, a lot of trailers, demos and blog posts have shown information about the games. All of the rumors will soon be put to rest, though, because Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will only be available on the Nintendo Switch when it comes out on November 18. As excitement builds, we’ve put together a list of some of the most important parts of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

@Pokemon Official: Only 3 days away! 😮

Three Storylines

Most of the time, the main series Pokémon games are pretty straightforward in how they go. The story goes from one town to the next in a straight line. There is usually a rival, an opposing group, eight gyms and the Pokémon League to beat. But Pokémon Scarlet and Violet have changed how this works. Even though players still have to clear gyms and get to Victory Road, they can now go to each gym in any order they want. The “Path of Legends” also has two other storylines that involve new, huge Titan Pokémon and a fight against Team Star, a group of school dropouts who are causing trouble all over the Paldea region. Scarlet and Violet look like it will be a nice change of pace for people who are tired of the usual Pokémon games

New Pokémon

With each new generation of Pokémon, there are new creatures to look at that are cute, scary and hard to understand. The Pokédex is getting close to having 1,000 entries, but the Pokémon Company doesn’t seem to be slowing down when it comes to making new Pokémon. While it’s been shown that many old favorites are coming back, it’s also been shown that there are new Pokémon, like the usual trio of starters. The new designs range from creatures that look like dogs to ones that look like people from the future. Fans are also getting local Pokémon like Paldean Wooper and new ways for old Pokémon to change, like Girafarig changing into Farigiraf.

Terastal Phenomenon

With each new generation of Pokémon, a new core battle mechanic has been added. Mega Evolutions were for Generation 6, Z-Moves were for Generation 7 and Dynamax was for Generation 8. Each feature changed how battles went, both in a serious way and in a fun way and Generation 9 might shake things up more than ever. As part of the new Terastal Phenomenon, all Scarlet and Violet Pokémon will be of the Tera Type. After Terastallizing, a Pokémon’s natural type is replaced by its Tera Type. For example, a Tyranitar, which is usually a Rock and Dark Type, can use Terastallize to change into a Ghost Type, making a Fighting Type attack useless against it when it would normally be 4x effective. Without getting too deep into what this mechanic means, it gives the game’s combat a completely new dimension. The Terastal Phenomenon looks like it will be good for both competitive battlers who want to change the meta and people who just want a fun new way to fight with their favorite Pokémon.

Legendary Pokémon

Most Pokémon games have a Legendary Pokémon on the cover and these Pokémon are often used as icons for each game. Most of the time, these Pokémon are only mentioned or show up briefly at the beginning of a game. But Scarlet and Violet change things again because each legendary appears earlier in the games. Koraidon and Miraidon are two Legendary Pokémon that look like vehicles. This is because they help the player get around the Paldea region. Both Pokémon have different forms that can be used as rides. In Sprinting Build/Drive Mode, Swimming Build/Aquatic Mode and Gliding Build/Glide Mode, Trainers can be carried by their Pokémon. Even though it’s not known when these two will join battles, they will be very important in every game.

Each Pokémon game has brought players closer together. At first, they talked to each other through physical cables. Now, they talk to each other all over the world through Wi-Fi. Trainers can still go anywhere in the Paldea region with up to three friends when they have Scarlet and Violet. Tera Raid Battles are an example of more co-op features. In Tera Raid Battles, which came after Max Raid Battles in Pokémon Sword and Shield, wild Pokémon that have been Terastalized face off against four Trainers in a timed battle. In these battles, unlike in Max Raid Battles, Trainers don’t have to wait for their turn, so the action moves quickly. For those who want a challenge, there will be black crystal Tera Raid Battles in the postgame. These battles will feature special Pokémon and rewards and will happen at different times. The first one is Charizard, a Dragon Tera Type Pokémon that doesn’t normally live in Palden.

Scarlet and Violet Books

Trainers will be able to use the Scarlet and Violet books in their respective games to help them find out more about the world. Each one has records from an expedition that is said to have gone through an uncharted part of the area a very long time ago. On the pages of each book, there are different photos and drawings of Pokémon that haven’t been named yet. The first two books turned out to be The Monster Known as Great Tusk and The Monster Known as Iron Treads. These Pokémon are thought to be Donphan forms with prehistoric or futuristic designs and each book is thought to have its own unique theme. Whether this means two forms or evolutions of classic Pokémon or a group of creatures with the same theme, there’s a good chance that these will be fan favorites in the games.

Paldea Region

The Paldea region is an open-world environment, which goes along with the game’s flexible progression. Trainers will go out into a variety of open spaces, such as mountains, wastelands, lakes and tall peaks. It’s a simple idea, and its openness is a welcome change to Pokémon maps, which have often felt cramped in the past because they had to limit the player’s access based on how the story went.

Paldea Region

Auto Battle

The new “Let’s Go!” function is the last of the cool things in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. “Let’s Go!” gives you a new way to have your Pokémon interact with the overworld by letting one of them walk around the Paldea region. As it walks around, this Pokémon will pick up items on its own and fight other Pokémon in Auto Battles. Auto Battles are another feature added to the games. They let Pokémon fight each other without the Trainer having to do anything, earning Exp. Points and items along the way. If you’re tired of spamming the A button to level up your team, this could be a new way to do it while still being able to keep going on your adventure.
