NieR: Automata Anime Ver1.1a Release Has Been Delayed

The covid pandemic is still affecting the release of NieR: Automata Ver1.1a, the anime based on the action RPG by PlatinumGames. The show’s official Twitter account said that the rest of the series would not be coming out for an indefinite amount of time. Unusually, this news came after the show’s first three episodes had already been posted on Crunchyroll after it started on January 7.

“Due to the effects of COVID-19 on production, we have decided to delay the broadcast and distribution of episode 4 and all subsequent episodes,” the statement says, adding that a new release schedule will be posted on Twitter soon. “We apologize for any inconvenience and concern this may cause our fans who have been looking forward to our work due to these unforeseen circumstances.”

NieR: Automata Ver1.1a isn’t the first TV show that was delayed because of the pandemic, but it’s happening less and less often now that covid vaccines are being given to more and more people.

Even so, I can’t think of another show that was pushed back after its first episodes came out. The anime is made by A-1 Pictures, an animation studio based in Japan. It’s not clear how many episodes were supposed to be in the series, but one report says there will be 24 in total.
