New iPad Mini Could Be A Year Away

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says Apple is adding a new processor to its iPad Mini. Shipments of the inbetweener should start by the end of 2023 or the beginning of 2024.

The iPad Mini got a new look at the end of 2021 after mainly staying the same since it came out in 2012. The 8.3-inch tablet fits between Apple’s giant phone, the 6.7-inch Pro Max, and the 10th-generation iPad (10.9 inch). It has an A15 Bionic chip and a USB-C port, and you can choose to connect to 5G if you want to. Kuo says that the new processor will be “the main selling point,” so we shouldn’t expect too many other changes.

If Kuo’s timeline is correct, the iPad Mini will be ready for a chip update after two years. That could mean an A16 chip from the current top-of-the-line iPhone 14 Pro or an M-series chip from the iPad Air and iPad Pro. Guess we’ll find out next fall when Apple usually shows off its new hardware for the holiday season.
