Misrach Ewunetie Death: Missing Princeton University Student Found Dead

Misrach Ewunetie, a Princeton student who had been missing for six days, was found dead on Thursday, six days after she went missing. The body of the 20-year-old was found by a facilities worker behind the tennis courts at the edge of the Ivy League campus, the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office said.

Authorities said they don’t know what killed her, but “there were no obvious signs of injury, and her death does not seem suspicious or criminal.” Around 1 p.m. Thursday, her body was found.

In a statement, the Ivy League school also said that police do not think Ewunetie’s death was caused by foul play.

“The death of Misrach is a tragedy that can’t be imagined. Princeton Vice President W. Rochelle Calhoun said, “Our hearts go out to her family, her friends, and the many other people who knew and loved her.”

“Princeton is a close-knit town, and we are all saddened by Misrach’s death.”

Calhoun said that the school plans to hold an event in memory of Ewunetie, but that the details have not yet been made public.

The high-achieving student hasn’t been seen since Oct. 14, and her disappearance has led to a large-scale search for her across the whole state of New Jersey. The student newspaper the Daily Princetonian says that the night before she went missing, she had been helping out at one of Princeton’s most exclusive eating clubs.

“On Thursday night, one of our members who had signed up for duty couldn’t make it to our event, so Misrach offered to take their place. The eating club said in a statement that Misrach and the other members on duty left for the night after the club closed and all of their duties were done.

Authorities used drones and boats to look through the school’s huge grounds. Ewunetie, a junior at the top school, was last seen brushing her teeth in Scully Hall early in the morning.

Misrach Ewunetie’s Brother Statement

Her brother said that her phone had gone off near an off-campus housing complex, which was about 30 minutes from her dorm.

Police looked through the apartment complex three times but couldn’t find her. The school sent out multiple alerts asking anyone with information to come forward. Ewunetie’s family, who are from Ethiopia but now live in Ohio, told authorities on Saturday that she missed an appointment for her US citizenship application. They are from Ethiopia but now live in Ohio.

Her brother Universe Ewunetie recently told the Sun, “She is the jewel of the house. She is their only daughter and the youngest.” “Many people love her.”

Just hours before police found her body on Thursday, her distraught brother went on ABC’s “Good Morning America” to beg for her return.

He said, “All we want is for the law to move faster because time is of the essence.” “Any help we can get will do.” He had said it was strange that his sister’s phone rang off-campus, calling the leafy Ivy League grounds “very insular.” So it’s strange that her phone is off campus. He said, “It seems like everything is on campus.”

Misrach Ewunetie’s LinkedIn profile

On campus, she was a member of the Pre-College Research Institute, the Princeton Ethiopian and Eritrean Student Association, and a group called Matriculate. According to its website, Matriculate pairs students with “low-income, high-achieving high schoolers to serve as virtual advisers for them through the college application process.”
