Mike Tirico was born to Maria and Donald on December 13, 1966, in the Queens borough of New York City. He went to Bayside High School and then to Syracuse University to study at the S. I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. While he was a student at Syracuse, Tirico worked as the sports director at a station that was affiliated with CBS, WTVH. He also had his first radio show on the campus station WAER. Bob Costas, who went to Syracuse, was his first guest on the show. In 1988, Tirico got his degree from Syracuse.

In 1991, Tirico started working for ESPN as the host of the daily sports news show “SportsCenter.” He quickly became well-known on the show for his ability to handle a wide range of tasks.
