Microsoft And Meta Partnership Brings Office 365 Apps To The Metaverse

Meta Microsoft Partnership: As companies and workers get used to new ways of working after the pandemic, we’re living through a once-in-a-lifetime change in how people work. Work is no longer a place. It can be done at home, in the office, in a warehouse, or on the go. Work is now an experience that goes beyond place and time.

Over the past two and a half years, new ways of working have emerged that put people, communication, and workflows at the center. In that time, the number of people who use Microsoft Teams every month has grown to 270 million, making it the most popular platform for business processes and workplace collaboration. The growth of teams shows how work has changed and where it is headed.

People want to be able to work together and make things with other people from wherever they are. We think that in the not-too-distant future, the metaverse will be a big part of how people connect with each other. In fact, our Work Trend Index shows that 50% of Gen Z and millennials plan to do some of their work in the metaverse in the next two years.

As a platform company, our approach to workplace productivity and collaboration is to make sure that the software experiences we deliver can help users on all of their favorite devices. In this spirit, we’re announcing today a number of ways we’ll work with Meta to give customers more options and safety as they explore the metaverse.

First, we’re adding Mesh for Microsoft Teams to devices from Meta Quest.

Mesh for Teams is based on years of research and new ideas from Microsoft Cloud, like Digital Twins for Azure, Dynamics 365 Remote Assist, and video meetings for Teams.

It is made to help people meet virtually in a place where work is done on any device, such as smartphones, laptops, and mixed-reality headsets. Mesh for Teams lets people connect and work together as if they were in the same room. It works with Meta Quest Pro and Meta Quest 2 devices.

Also, Microsoft 365 apps will be available on Meta Quest devices. This will let people use their favorite productivity apps like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and SharePoint in VR. In the future, Windows 365 will also be available on Meta Quest devices, and you will be able to stream your apps, content, and settings from a Windows Cloud PC.

Meta Quest Pro and Meta Quest 2 will be supported by Microsoft Intune and Azure Active Directory. This means that IT administrators can confidently set up these devices for users who have a Quest for Business subscription from Meta. This means that the security and management options they are used to on PCs and mobile devices will also be available in VR.

Lastly, Microsoft and Meta are looking into ways to add Xbox Cloud Gaming to Meta Quest Store. This would let gamers stream hundreds of high-quality Xbox games to phones, tablets, PCs, some smart TVs, and the Meta Quest platform.

This partnership adds to our commitment to HoloLens, and we’re excited to keep improving our roadmap for mixed-reality devices, which is based on the cloud and puts Windows and Microsoft 365 in the lead. All of this helps us build the foundations of a responsible metaverse. Security, compliance, and enterprise-grade experiences are key to how we will continue to open up new possibilities for the future of work.
