McDonald’s All-American Girls Game: Juju Watkins of Sierra Canyon Leads Team West To Victory in 2023

Juju Watkins had 25 points to lead Team West to a 110-102 victory against Team East in Tuesday’s girls’ McDonald’s All-American Game in Houston.

Hannah Hidalgo set a game-high with 26 points, eight steals, and five assists. Hidalgo and Watkins were chosen game MVPs.

Following an entertaining first quarter, Team West led 20-18. Midway through the second quarter, a free throw from LSU-bound Mikayla Williams of Parkway (LA) made it 40-30.

After falling behind, Team East rallied back to tie the game at 42-41 on a 3-pointer by Keenan (South Carolina) guard Milaysia Fulwiley, a South Carolina signee. Team West led 52-46 at halftime thanks to 12 points from UCLA-bound Amanda Muse of Heritage (California).

Aalyah Del Rosario of The Webb School (Tennessee), an LSU signee, made a three-pointer in the third quarter to put Team East ahead 65-62. With a Hidalgo (Paul VI, New Jersey) buzzer-beater, Team East took an 81-74 lead into the fourth quarter. Hidalgo, the county’s best point guard recruit, has committed to Notre Dame.

Team West opened the fourth quarter with a 9-0 run to reclaim the lead at 83-81. Jada Williams of La Jolla Country Day (California) made a huge 3 to give Team West a 92-83 lead. As Team West held on in the final minutes, the Arizona signee buried another triple.

Sierra Canyon (California) signee Watkins scored a 3-pointer in the final seconds to cap the highest-scoring girl’s McDonald’s All-American Game in history.
