No one knows for sure what the future of DC on the big screen will be, but two of its most popular characters, Batman and Superman, as well as their worlds, will be front and center.
The Hollywood Reporter has a big new story that goes behind the scenes in DC, with news about everything from this week’s Black Adam to James Gunn’s possible new movies. Two of the most interesting things, though, are that Warner Bros. is working on a new Superman movie starring Henry Cavill and that Matt Reeves isn’t just making a sequel to The Batman; he also wants to make more movies about some of Batman’s villains.
Let’s look at them one by one. The idea of Henry Cavill coming back as Superman seems to be everywhere these days. Dwayne Johnson, who plays Black Adam, has made it clear that the character could make a cameo in his movie. If that’s true, and people will find out later this week, then a possible cameo would mean that the character is back for good, so the next step would be a new movie.
Time will tell if that’s an official Man of Steel 2 or something to do with Black Adam. But io9 has heard that the news is true and that people are looking for writers for a new Superman movie right now. (This isn’t related to the Ta-Nehisi Coates Superman movie, which, if it happens, could be like the Joker and exist outside of continuity.)
Matt Reeves is making a sequel to The Batman, which has already been confirmed and made official. He is also going full speed ahead with the Penguin show for HBO Max. But this new report says that more shows and, yes, movies set in the Robert Pattinson Bat universe are in the “very early stages of gestation.” “Characters like the Scarecrow, Clayface, and Professor Pyg” are some examples given by the trade. Will they include Batman? Will they happen at all? Again, nothing is set in stone, but it could happen.

Patty Jenkins is reportedly ready to send in a “scriptment” for Wonder Woman 3, which is less than a script but more than a treatment. This will be the first news about that movie in a long time. Also, the script for The Flash 2 is already done, in case that movie does well.
