Lisa Marie Presley Death: The Daughter of Elvis Presley Passed Away At 54

Lisa Marie Presley, the only child of Elvis Presley and a singer and songwriter, died on Thursday after a medical emergency and a short stay in the hospital. She turned 54.

In a statement, Priscilla Presley’s representative, Sam Mast, said,  Sam Mast, a representative for Priscilla Presley, her mother, said in a statement. “They are profoundly grateful for the support, love and prayers of everyone, and ask for privacy during this very difficult time.”.”

Priscilla Presley said in a statement earlier in the day that her daughter was getting medical care, but she didn’t say anything else.

Elvis Presley was one of the most famous artists in history, and his daughter, Ms. Presley, followed in his footsteps. She made three albums where she tried to make her rock sound stand out and pay tribute to the man who changed American music for good by mixing blues, gospel, pop, and country.

The huge things that her father had given her were always with her. At the Golden Globes on Tuesday, she talked about him again. She told Extra TV that Austin Butler, who won the award for best lead actor in a drama for his role in Baz Luhrmann‘s biopic “Elvis,” had perfectly portrayed her father.

Ms. Presley, who was 9 years old when her father died in 1977, said, ” “I had to take, like, five days to process it because it was so spot on and authentic.”

In a statement posted Thursday night on Twitter, the Golden Globe Awards said, “We are incredibly saddened to hear of the passing of Lisa Marie Presley. She was an extremely talented Singer/Songwriter and a very welcome presence at the Golden Globes this past Tuesday. May you rest in peace.”

The Memphis newspaper The Commercial Appeal said that on Sunday, Ms. Presley was at Graceland, Elvis’s home, to remember what would have been her father’s 88th birthday.

The father and daughter were very close. Once, when the daughter said she had never seen snow, Elvis flew her to Idaho. Lisa Marie was her father’s name for the private plane he bought in 1958.

Ms. Presley owned Graceland and things that belonged to her father. She was also the owner of 15% of Elvis Presley Enterprises.

On the other hand, her music career never took off like her dad does. But some of her songs and lyrics showed that he had an effect on her. In the bluesy, sad song “Lights Out” from her first album, “To Whom It May Concern,” from 2003, she sings, “Someone turned the lights out there in Memphis. There, my family is dead and buried.”

In 2018, she helped make an album about Elvis’s love of gospel music. On one of the songs, she sang with a recording of Elvis.

“As I was singing, it moved me,” she said in an interview.

Still, her last name made her a star from the start. And her relationships with famous people only added to that impression.

She was married to Michael Jackson from 1994 to 1996. One was the daughter of the king of rock ‘n’ roll, and the other was known as the king of pop. Together, they were surrounded by cameras and got a lot of attention. She got married to actor Nicolas Cage in 2002, but they broke up within four months of that year.

Before she married Mr. Jackson in 1988, she married the musician Danny Keough. They were together for six years and had two kids, Riley Keough, who is an actress, and Benjamin Keough, who killed himself at age 27 in 2020. In recent years, she was married to Michael Lockwood, with whom she had Finley Lockwood and Harper Lockwood, twin daughters. In 2021, they split up.

On Thursday, well-known people paid tribute to Ms. Presley online. The actress Octavia Spencer, who has won an Oscar, wrote on Twitter, “We’ve lost another bright star.”

In a statement released early Thursday, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said it had responded to a call about a woman in Calabasas, California, who was “not breathing” but did not further specify the person’s condition. Ms. Presley’s representative, Roger Widynowski, could not be immediately reached for comment on Thursday night

“When the deputies got there, paramedics were doing CPR and checking on the patient,” the authorities said. “They saw that the patient was still breathing, so they took her to a nearby hospital right away for more care.” Within hours, the news came that she had died.

Ms. Presley wrote about her struggles with addiction in a foreword to the book “The United States of Opioids: A Prescription for Liberating a Nation in Pain.

In an essay for People magazine in 2022, Ms. Presley wrote that death, grief, and loss had been a part of her life since she was a child. She also said that the death of Mr. Keough had been a terrible blow to her and her three daughters.

“Grief doesn’t stop or go away, no matter how long it’s been,” she said. “Grief is something you have to live with for the rest of your life, no matter what some people or our culture tell us.”
