Rick Caruso in LA Mayor’s Race: Karen Bass Surges Into Lead

Rep. Karen Bass has taken a small lead in the race to be the next mayor of Los Angeles. The most recent batch of results that were made public by the Office of the Registrar of the County of Los Angeles showed that Rick Bass had pulled ahead of Rick Caruso by a margin of more than 4,300 votes.

As of Friday, Bass was still in office with 289,782 votes, or 50.38 percent of all votes counted. So far, 285,398 votes have been cast for Caruso.

Caruso had a lead of 12,000 votes on Wednesday, but as more votes were counted throughout the day, that lead began to shrink. There were still about a million ballots to count in Los Angeles County.

Both Bass and Caruso have said they are optimistic about their chances of winning, but it is likely to be a few more days before a winner can be predicted with certainty.

To this point, neither the Associated Press nor the Los Angeles Times have made a prediction regarding the outcome of the race for either candidate.
