At the time of his death, Kobe Bryant was thought to be worth about $600 Million. Kobe Bryant was an American who used to play professional basketball and then started his own business. He spent all 20 years of his NBA career with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Bryant was thought to be one of the best NBA players of all time. During his career, he won many awards and trophies, and he was also one of the wealthiest athletes in history.
When Kobe’s death was announced, it was a huge shock to the whole world. He had been on his way to watch his daughter play basketball when his helicopter crashed. Also killed were his daughter and several other people.
What was Kobe Bryant’s Net Worth?
Kobe Bryant was an American NBA player, producer, philanthropist, and business owner. Kobe Bryan had a net worth of $600 million when he died. Kobe Bryant died in a terrible helicopter crash on January 26, 2020. Kobe Bryant was an NBA All-Star 18 times, won the NBA title 5 times, and was the NBA Finals MVP twice.
Even after he stopped playing sports, Kobe was still one of the best-paid athletes. Kobe made a lot of money from his salary and endorsements over the course of his career. He made very smart business decisions. When he died, his share of the company that made the drink BodyArmour was worth $200 million. Six years ago, he paid $6 million for the share. Coca-Cola paid $5.6 billion in October 2021 to buy all of BodyArmour’s shares.
What Would Kobe Bryant’s Net Worth Be Today?
As we just said, Kobe Bryant’s net worth at the time of his death was $600 million. That number included the $200 million that his BodyArmour investment was worth before taxes.
By October 2021, when Coca-Cola bought all of BodyArmour for $8 billion, the Bryant estate’s share of the company was only 5%. So, before taxes, his estate made $400 million from this deal. After paying taxes, that came to about $270 million. So Kobe’s net worth would go from $600 million to $670 million if he was still alive when this deal was made. Even though that doesn’t seem like a big increase, it takes into account a $200 million increase in the value of BodyArmour and a $130 million drop in value because of taxes. With other deals and transactions, it’s likely that Kobe Bryant would have started 2022 with a net worth of $700 million if things had gone differently. Must Check Stan Kroenke Net Worth
Kobe Bryant Early life
Kobe Bryant was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on August 23, 1978. Joe Bryant, the boy’s father, used to play for the Philadelphia 76ers. His parents gave him the name Kobe after seeing the famous beef of Kobe, Japan, on a restaurant menu. When Kobe was six, Joe quit the NBA and moved the family to Italy, where he kept playing basketball in a European league. Kobe became very good at speaking Italian. As a pre-teen, Kobe would come back to the US during the summers to play in basketball summer leagues. After Joe stopped playing for good, he and his family moved back to Philadelphia, where he went to Lower Merion High School.
Kobe was a great basketball player in high school, and he led his team to the state championship for the first time in 53 years. He was named Men’s National Basketball Player of the Year by Gatorade and an All-USA first-team player by USA Today. Kobe’s SAT score was high enough that he could have gotten a scholarship to many colleges, but he chose to go straight to the pros instead. Kobe was the youngest player ever picked for the NBA draught.
Kobe was first picked up by the Hornets, but he was traded to the Lakers right away as part of a deal. Kobe’s parents had to sign his rookie contract with him because he was only 17. His first NBA deal was for $3.5 million over three years.
Kobe was the youngest NBA player to start at age 18. He didn’t really hit his stride until his third year with the Lakers. He started every game, and people started comparing him to Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson.
In his third year, he also got a new 6-year contract worth $70 million. The Lakers hired Phil Jackson as their coach in 1999. Five times, Jackson, Kobe, and the Lakers would win the NBA championship. Those three years were 2000, 2001, and 2002.
Kobe Bryant’s Salary And Career Earnings
Kobe Bryant made just over $328 million in salary alone during his NBA career with the Los Angeles Lakers. A three-year extension for $90 million was signed in 2010 and is another important NBA contract. In 2013, he signed a two-year extension worth $48.5 million. In his last year in the NBA, Kobe got a salary of $25 million.
Kobe made about $350 million from endorsements over the course of his career. So far in his career, he has made a total of $680 million.
Nike, Sprite, McDonald’s, Turkish Airlines, Lenovo, Hublot, and Panini were among the most well-known brands that paid him to advertise for them. Because Kobe was so well-known in China, he was able to get lucrative endorsement deals with companies like Alibaba, Sina.com, and Mercedes Benz.
For the first few years of his career, he was under contract with Adidas. Before the 1996 season, he signed a contract with Adidas that was worth $48 million over six years.
After he was accused of sexual assault in 2003, he lost a lot of endorsement deals. One big exception was Nike, which signed him to a four-year deal that paid him $10 million a year that same year. It’s interesting that Nike didn’t sponsor Kobe in any way for two years.
In the end, endorsement deals came back in full force.
Investing in BodyArmour
In March 2014, Kobe spent $6 million to buy a 10% stake in the sports drink company BodyArmour.
Coca-Cola bought a 15% stake in BodyArmor in August 2018. At that time, the company was worth $2 billion as a whole. On paper, before taxes, that meant Kobe’s $6 million investment was worth $200 million. After taking over bottling and distribution, Coca-Cola was able to get an extra 15% equity stake.
Coca-Cola bought the remaining 70% of BodyArmour for $5.6 billion in October 2021. The brand was worth $8 billion at the time of the deal. At the time of the purchase, Kobe’s share had been cut down to 5%, so his estate got a windfall of $400 million.
Other than the NBA
Kobe won gold medals at the Summer Olympics in 2008 and 2012. In 2018, Kobe’s short film “Dear Basketball” won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film.
Kobe and his business partner Jeff Stibel started a venture capital company called Byrant-Stibel with $100 million in funding in August of 2016. The fund was set up to invest in companies in the fields of technology, media, and data. Jeff and Kobe have put money into a lot of different businesses, such as The Players Tribune, LegalZoom, Juicero, and Scopely, which makes video games.
In November 1999, Kobe married Vanessa Laine, who was only 17 years old at the time. They met in a music video where she was dancing in the background. At the same time, he was in the studio making his first album of music. Six months after they met for the first time, they got engaged. She had one year left of high school.
Kobe and Vanessa got married in Dana Point, California, on April 18, 2001. Bryant’s parents didn’t go to the wedding because, so the story goes, they didn’t like the couple.
On January 19, 2003, they had their first child, Natalia Diamante Bryant. On May 1, 2006, they had their second child, Gianna Maria-Onore Bryant. In the end, they had four children, and they were all girls. Bianka and Capri are the names of their other two girls.
Vanessa Bryant filed for divorce on December 16, 2011, after being married for 10.5 years. Since they didn’t have a prenup, Vanessa’s divorce settlement could have cost him between $100 million and $150 million. They got along again in the end.
Kobe Bryan died in a helicopter crash on January 26, 2020, at the age of 41. This was a very sad turn of events. In the crash, eight other people also died. Gianna, Kobe’s 13-year-old daughter, was also one of the people who died.
